📍DAY 18: Kampong Cham, Cambodia 🇰🇭 🚙 to Phnom Penh, Cambodia 🇰🇭 ✈️ to Singapore 🇸🇬

Yesterday I left Kampong Cham via private car to head to the KTI airport in Phnom Penh. This is a 3 hour drive. Others left the ship to Siem Reap which was a 6 hour drive.

The KTI airport is new and it’s stunning. It also was not overcrowded and I breezed right through security. I headed to the lounge thanks to my priority pass. The lounge also has a spa so I was able to get a 45 minute massage for $28. What a great way to pass some time.

I boarded my Singapore air flight and my first thought was that it was the cleanest plane I have ever been on. I had a row all to myself and even though the flight was under two hours, we had a meal and drink service twice. And I was in economy. The meal was a choice between chicken pasta and a seafood noodle. I got the seafood noodle and it’s the best airplane food I have ever had. It also comes in cute little containers. The staff on this flight were amazing.

I got a Grab (their Uber) from the airport quickly and made it to check into my hotel around 6:30pm. The hotel is stunning and I will share more later. I had a dinner reservation in the hotel at 8pm for Cherry Garden by Chef Fei which is a one Michelin star restaurant. It was fantastic and again, amazing service.

Early bedtime because travel days are exhausting!

📍DAY 17: Angkor Ban Village & Kampong Cham, Cambodia 🇰🇭

This morning started with a ceremony providing food to monks and exploring Angkor Ban Village. This is the only village not destroyed during the Khmer Rouge regime and some of these stilted houses are up to 100 years old.

Back on ship, we had a tea ceremony and tried milk oolong tea.

We reached our final port of call, Kampong Cham which is Cambodia’s 3rd largest city.

Our final excursion had us headed out to view the Twin Mountains. I was excited that we got to see a few monkeys!

Tomorrow I am headed to my final destination of this trip, Singapore!

📍DAY 16: Oknhatey, Cambodia 🇰🇭

Today we took a tuk tuk from the ship to visit Silk Island and the Oknhatey Village to learn about silk weaving. Gorgeous peacocks were wondering on their land and I was excited to find a coke light in a can!

From there we went by tuk tuk to visit a local elementary school and provide them with school supplies. The students love to give us high fives and speak English with us. From there is was a short walk back to the ship.

We spent the remainder of the day sailing and taking advantage of the ships events and amenities. I took a nap then visited the spa one more time for a facial.

Tomorrow is our last full day of exploring before we disembark and head to our next destinations.

This morning we headed to tour the Royal Palace before spending some time at the central market.

After lunch we went on tuk tuk ride and explored the sites of Phnom Penh

📍DAY 14: Phnom Penh, Cambodia 🇰🇭

Since we have arrived to Cambodia, we started our morning with customs reviewing our passports on the ship. Then we boarded a bus about one hour to Oudong, to visit to one of the country’s largest monasteries. We received a traditional blessing ceremony then walked up the 600+ steps to get an incredible view of the area.

We headed back for lunch then it was off again. This afternoon we spent learning about a dark chapter of Cambodia’s history with visits to the Killing Fields and then Khmer Rouge regime Tuol Sleng (S21 Detention Center). Nearly 2 million people were killed in killing fields between April 17, 1975 - July 1, 1979. Our tour guide shared his personal stories with losing his parents in the killing fields and being forced to complete killings at 9 years old to save his life and then also working at the detention center.

📍DAY 13: Tan Chau, Vietnam 🇻🇳

Today we took a boat to Tan Chau where we boarded a bus to the Tra Su Forest (1+ hour ride). Once we arrived we took a speed boat before stopping and taking a walk. We were headed to a tower for great views but unfortunately, an issue with bees kept us away. We later got in smaller boats with a local (we loved our guide!) went through the forest and bird sanctuary before it was time to get back on the bus. I loved this day and it’s one I was most looking forward to.

After lunch I attended a Travel Advisor seminar before watching a cooking demo for pho (yum!) and spring rolls. They were setting up for a fruit tasting and I wanted to attend but I had an appointment. I thought I signed up for a spa facial but it was another massage and I’m not complaining. It was amazing. I was finished in time for dinner and then spent the rest of the evening listening to my audio book and catching up on emails.

This morning we took a boat (from the boat) to visit the historic Kiet House and candy workshop in Cai Be. Walking to the Kiet House, we could see how the locals lived and spotted so much fruit growing along the way. Bananas, star fruit, jackfruit, and herbs like lemon grass, basil, and more. The candy workshops provided demonstrations on making rice paper, coconut candy, moonshine, and popping rice. We were able to shop their market and I bought some goodies to bring home.

We took our boat back to the ship where we sailed during our lunch and some relaxing time.Out next excursion was to Sa Dec to visit the lover’s house, the market, and the jade jewelry shop.

We returned in time for my pedicure appointment on the ship and then I had dinner at the Chef’s Table before a massage appointment.

Tomorrow we go to the excursion I have been most excited for.

Today we boarded the AmaDara! After an amazing breakfast at the hotel, it was time to gather with the group to bus to port. The drive to the port was two hours.

We had a late lunch on the ship before a safety briefing and setting sail. AmaWaterways has a great fleet of ships however the AmaDara is unique in a lot of ways. One of them is that every room has a French balcony and a walk out balcony.

We had a welcome cocktail and dinner. Then it was back to my room to get acclimated. Tomorrow our excursions start.

📍DAY 10: Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam 🇻🇳

Flight from Kazakhstan left after midnight and landed in Bangkok, Thailand before my flight to Ho Chi Minh / Saigon. I was excited to get an upgrade to business class on my first flight so I slept a little.

Once I arrived, my driver for my AmaWaterways transfer to my hotel was waiting for me (even after it took me an hour to get through customs). This is one of the best perks of guided travel. I arrived just for the night because tomorrow we board the ship for 7 days.

I checked into the beautiful Reverie hotel. This was booked via AmaWaterways and is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. It was so gorgeous and comfortable and included an amazing breakfast. I had a massage for 90 minutes and then had room service for dinner because I was so tired from traveling. These services are much more affordable in Vietnam.

Tomorrow I board the AmaDara! I was able to view three AMA ships in Amsterdam but this one is very different with less rooms, and all rooms have two balconies, French balcony and a walk out balcony.

📍DAY 8 & 9: Almaty, Kazakhstan 🇰🇿

We had been going nonstop so we took a much needed break on day 8 and worked at the hotel. It was nice to get caught up on emails and get some work done.

Then it was time to get ready for the TBEX opening event held at our hotel, the Ritz Almaty. The opening party offered a taste of Kazakhstan, including more horse meat. Then we had some amazing entertainment.

Day 9 kicked off the conference sessions. The last day is of the conference and closing was the next day but sadly, I had to say goodbye to Laura & Kelly because I was off for a midnight flight on my way to Vietnam. 🇻🇳 I am so excited for my first river cruise with AmaWaterways and cannot wait to explore the Mekong River through Vietnam & Cambodia.
