Day 10

Our day is Paris was PERFECT! We had a fabulous tour of the city this morning with several stops for pictures at all the big attractions.

We were allowed 4.5 hours of free time this afternoon for lunch and shopping. I’m not sure how our suitcases will fit everything we’re bringing back!

I’m thankful for my chaperones, Faye Cress and Julie Tarter, who have been the very best I could have asked for! They became fast friends and supported every decision I made for our group. They kept up with their girls, and they ensured they were in their rooms at bed check times. They are dear to me, and I hope to travel together with them again one day!!

We’re tired, but my heart is full! Opening up the world to our students, through an educational tour, thrills me! I hope when they look back, they’ll know all of the work we’ve done and rules we implemented were to keep them safe and moving in the same direction at the same speed for the good of the group of 43! Not everyone liked the rules or the pace, and it caused friction on more than one occasion. But we survived!

We’ll be back in the great state of Texas tomorrow night! I can’t wait for you to reunite with your kids!!

Day 9

We said goodbye to London and hello to Paris! The EuroStar train is FAST! We arrived in under 2.5 hours, and hit up the Louvre for just a bit. I had no idea just how large the art museum is! It is massive!

Like others, I fought my way to the front to see the Mona Lisa. I was surprised at how small she is! I promised to selfie with my girl, and I did! Your kids did, too. Ask them to share their Mona Lisa pictures.

We got to ride by Notre Dame Cathedral and bask in her glory. The architecture is breathtakingly beautiful, but the building is not currently open to the public as they are still restoring the building after the devastating fire from a few years ago.

We are checked into our very modern/industrial hotel here in Paris. Thankfully, we’re only here for 2 nights because our rooms are TINY!!

I’m sad our tour is coming to an end, but I’m ready to head home to my family. My youngest son turned 13 today, and I miss being there to celebrate.

Day 8

We got to sleep in a little this morning, and I desperately needed those 8 hours of rejuvenation. We spent the morning at the Tower of London where most of us viewed the Crown Jewels. I was disappointed they don’t allow photographs.

We spent our lunch and early afternoon time in the Burough Market before heading to the The Old Operating Theatre. The presenter who shared the history of the theatre was such a great storyteller, and I could have listened to her all day!

We had Indian cuisine for dinner tonight, which was a first for me. I’m surprised that I actually liked it and would definitely eat it again.

After dinner, we headed to a Jack the Ripper guided walking tour, which was actually very interesting. I’m going to do my own research after hearing the different theories on who he was.

We leave in the morning for Paris where we will travel on the EuroStar train. We will visit the Louvre before going to dinner and settling in for the night.

Day 7

We had a huge surprise and was able to watch the royal horses parade through the streets of London!!We took a guided, medical-themed walking tour of London today. Rob was an excellent guide and gave us great information about the history here in Great Britain.

We then had a quick lunch at one of the subway stations before heading to the Florence Nightingale Museum. All nurses know how important she was to the advancement of nursing into what it is today!!!

We had a fabulous dinner before taking a bus tour around Parliament Square, where Westminster Abbey and Big Ben are located as well as a quick photograph stop at Buckingham Palace.

We get a little extra sleep as our day starts a little later in the morning. And we NEED it!!

We have a date with some expensive jewelry in the morning!

Enjoy the pictures!

Day 6

London is HUGE! And it has some hidden gems tucked along streets we’d never know to wonder. We were introduced to a Jewish Beigel shop this morning that was to die for. Every single person who bought their goodies experienced greatness! I wish I’d thought to take pictures of the pastries and bagels.

We spent the morning taking part in the forensics workshop led by a Scotland Yard detective. She was marvelous, and the kids worked in teams to analyze the crime scene, evidence, etc. to solve the murder. It was so much fun watching them work together to solve it, and one of our Weatherford teams was the only one to choose the right suspect.

We headed by bus to Chelsea for lunch and to meet with a health care provider to discuss the similarities and differences in the health care industries of the US and UK. It was a fabulous presentation and Q&A session.

We ditched the bus and traffic for The Tube. What an awesome experience for our kids.

We finished the night in the theatre district watching Wicked!!! It was SOOOOO good, and I found myself wiping tears toward the end.

We got back to the hotel very late and have an early start tomorrow. We are tired but pushing through the tiredness to embrace it all.

Day 5

Goodbye, Edinburgh! Hello, London! I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore, Toto!! London has about 8.8 million people living here, and I think we encountered most of them today!

The train ride down was an interesting experience. Our train was cancelled, so we were pushed to the next train. We had to fight for some of our seats and didn’t always win.

Once we arrived, we rode the London Eye. It was fabulous and not nearly as scary as some of us anticipated.

We had traditional bangers and mash for dinner, and several of our kids weren’t fans. They decided on other options once we got to the hotel.

Our hotel is very nice and located in an area with lots of diversity. I’ve instructed our kids to have an adult with them at all times in the city given its size. This is a change from Edinburgh, and I’m hopeful you will have a conversation with them about honoring this requirement!

We have another busy day tomorrow where we will start by participating in our Forensics Lab. We’re so excited!

Good night!

Day 4

Today, we had a pretty laid back day where we enjoyed the National Museum of Scotland where we were introduced to Dolly, the sheep. We had free time for lunch then toured the Surgeon’s Hall Museum. We were not allowed to take pictures there out of respect for the people whose body parts were on display. It was fascinating and so very well done!!

We had a little more free time before dinner and settled in for the night about an hour ago.

Your kids’ photos will be different than mine as we got to explore the museums at our leisure based on our own interests.

Day 3

We are refreshed from almost 12 hours of sleep!!!! We had an absolutely fabulous, medical-themed tour of Edinburgh this morning but actually took very few pictures. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It was raining this morning, but the weather was spectacular this afternoon, albeit a little chilly for me.

We then took a tour of Mary King’s Close. That was equally as fabulous, but pictures were not allowed as it is located under a government building.

This afternoon, we spent a couple of hours at Edinburgh Castle and had free time on the Royal Mile to go spend our hard earned money on souvenirs. The guys from Azle in kilts this evening was spectacular.

We had a delicious dinner, and bed checks were about an hour ago.

Day 2 is coming to an end early tonight as some of us have been up for 33-34 hours after already working with only 4 hours of sleep from the night before. We will feel like new humans in the morning, but we’re more like brain dead zombies tonight.

After landing in Edinburgh almost an hour early, we met our Tour Director, Daniel. He hails from Pisa, Italy but has lived in London for over 30 years. We were picked up by our private coach bus and taken into the city center. We walked through beautiful parts of the “new” city, which was developed in the 1800s after a loch was drained.

We had authentic Italian pizza and wonderful ice cream for dinner tonight. 😍

Enjoy the pictures of our first day casually exploring this history rich, European beauty!

We’ve arrived! We’re exhausted, but we’re ready to walk the streets of Edinburgh.
