THE TURKISH MASSAGE EXPERIENCE - in Barcelona
For one unforgettable year, I had the privilege of working in a traditional Turkish hammam in Istanbul, where I learned the time-honored principles behind one of the world's oldest wellness traditions. While my treatment remains rooted in authentic Turkish techniques, I have carefully adapted the experience to suit modern Western expectations, creating something that is both deeply therapeutic and exceptionally comfortable.
Every treatment begins before the massage itself.
Upon arrival, you are invited to step into the shower and simply rinse your body. This is not a full shower, but rather a preparation that allows the skin to soften before exfoliation begins.
Using an authentic kese (the traditional Turkish exfoliating mitt) together with natural olive oil soap, I perform a vigorous full body exfoliation while you remain comfortably under the warm shower. This ancient ritual removes dead skin cells, stimulates circulation, refreshes the skin, and leaves the body feeling remarkably clean and energized.
This stage typically lasts between ten and fifteen minutes.
Once completed, you dry yourself before joining me in the massage room, where the atmosphere immediately changes. The lights are soft, the pace slows, and there is no sense of urgency.
Before the massage begins, I spend approximately ten minutes gently stretching the body. These slow, controlled movements help release tension within the muscles and improve flexibility, allowing the body to relax naturally before deeper work begins. Clients are often surprised at how much more receptive their muscles become after this simple but important preparation.
The massage itself is entirely personalized.
With the client lying face down, I begin at the neck and gradually work my way toward the feet using a rich, luxurious massage lotion that allows smooth, continuous movement over the body.
Depending on your individual needs, the treatment may include:
• A relaxing Swedish massage to calm the nervous system.
• A deeper therapeutic massage to release chronic muscular tension.
• Sports massage techniques that focus on areas affected by exercise, repetitive movement, or physical strain.
Most often, the session becomes a carefully balanced combination of all three. Rather than following a rigid routine, I allow the condition of your muscles to determine the direction of the treatment. Every body responds differently, and no two massages are ever identical.
Throughout the massage I primarily use broad, flowing movements with my palms and forearms, allowing consistent pressure over large muscle groups. Where deeper work is required, I occasionally incorporate my elbows to safely release more stubborn areas of tension without unnecessary discomfort.
As the treatment progresses, I continually assess how your muscles are responding.
If I encounter areas requiring additional attention, I may gently reposition you onto each side in turn so those muscles can be accessed more effectively. If your body has already entered a deep state of relaxation, I simply guide you onto your back and continue working from the neck all the way to your feet once again, ensuring every major muscle group receives equal attention.
The final moments of the massage are deliberately unhurried.
Using a series of light, calming finishing techniques, I help the body transition from deep therapeutic work back to a natural state of balance and wellbeing. This gentle conclusion often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the entire experience.
Although appointments are scheduled for approximately sixty minutes, I never believe that healing should be dictated by a clock. If I feel your body needs additional time to reach a complete state of relaxation, I will often extend the session. My goal is never simply to finish a treatment. My goal is to finish it properly.
Once the massage has concluded, I invite you to remain comfortably on the table for several minutes while I prepare either a freshly brewed cup of tea or chilled iced water according to your preference.
Only when you feel completely ready do I assist you in sitting up. You may then choose either to dress immediately or return briefly to the shower to rinse away any remaining massage lotion.
There is never any pressure to leave.
I intentionally leave generous time between appointments so that every client enjoys an unhurried experience from beginning to end. This also allows me to thoroughly clean and sanitize the studio before welcoming my next guest.
Because this level of attention requires both physical energy and complete concentration, I limit myself to no more than five treatments per day. I firmly believe that every client deserves exactly the same level of care, focus, and commitment as the first appointment of the morning.
A Turkish massage is traditionally known for being vigorous and deeply invigorating. My approach respects those authentic foundations while blending them with the comfort, warmth, and personalized care expected by today's clients.
The result is an experience that is restorative, deeply therapeutic, and profoundly relaxing—a treatment designed not simply to ease tired muscles, but to leave both body and mind feeling renewed.
