TODAY WE ARE IN THE PORT OF ADIZ SPAIN, BUT WE ARE ONLY STOPPING BRIEFLY BECAUSE WE ARE HEADING TO SEVILLE!

Seville, the capital of Andalusia, is world-renowned as the birthplace of flamenco and a hub of passionate Spanish culture, featuring the massive Seville Cathedral, the stunning Moorish Alcázar palace. It is famous for its Mudéjar architecture, aromatic orange trees, delicious tapas, and sunny, warm climate.

Culinary & Atmosphere: Known for its vibrant tapas scene, orange trees lining the streets, and a relaxed, sunny atmosphere.

And yes, Yes, Game of Thrones was heavily filmed in Seville, Spain, particularly for Season 5. The iconic Royal Alcázar of Seville was used as the primary filming location for the Water Gardens of Dorne, the seat of House Martell. Other Seville locations include the Roman ruins of Italica and the shipyards.

FUNFACT FRIDAY - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PICTOGRAPH AND A PETROGLYPH?

Petroglyphs are images carved, pecked, or ground directly into a rock surface, while pictographs are images painted onto rock, often using natural pigments like charcoal or mineral ochre. Petroglyphs last longer by altering the rock surface, whereas pictographs are more fragile and vulnerable to weathering over time.

Key Differences Between Petroglyphs and Pictographs
• Appearance: Petroglyphs often appear as shallow grooves or carvings that rely on shadow for visibility, sometimes revealing a lighter layer of rock underneath the dark desert varnish. Pictographs are recognized by their color—red ochre, black charcoal, or white calcium carbonate.
• Durability: Petroglyphs generally last much longer because they are carved into the substrate. Pictographs are more fragile and prone to eroding quickly when exposed to the elements.
• Common Locations: Petroglyphs are often found on exposed, dark-oxidized desert varnish rock faces. Pictographs are more frequently protected in caves, alcoves, or rock shelters.
Both are invaluable forms of ancient rock art that provide insight into the creativity, culture, and daily life of early human populations.

There are preserved locations all over the country where you can view these amazing works of art. One such location where Hundreds of examples of rock art (Both Petroglyths and Pictographs) made by the ancestors of today's Nez Perce are at Buffalo Eddy just outside of Lewiston, Idaho.

TRAVEL TUESDAY - Today we are going to go to Lisbon, Portugal. This is a continuation of our SPOTLIGHT TRIP OF THE WEEK -SOLAR ECLIPSE OF THE SUN!

Its estimated population is 54,4851 (as of 2022). It is the westernmost large city located in continental Europe. It’s also the westernmost capital city in continental Europe and the only one located along the Atlantic coast.

If you thought last week was fun, hold on to your hats!!! This week we are taking an EPIC cruise from Southampton UK, round trip through Spain, Morocco and Portugal. Stops in Lisbon, Portugal; Cadiz, Spain; Barcelona, Valencia, Tangier, La Coruna. Bonus – we will get to watch the 100% Eclipse of the Sun while docked in Tangier, Morocco! Let’s see what these 14 days will look like!

DAY 1 – Spend some time in Southampton, UK.

What is Southampton UK known for?

🛳️More recently, Southampton is known as the home port of some of the largest cruise ships in the world. The Cunard Line maintains a regular transatlantic service to New York from the city. Southampton is also one of the largest retail destinations in the South of England.

🚈IT is only about 70-80 miles from London and takes roughly an hour by train.

🤣Ok, board the damn ship! Let’s get going! LOL
We depart Southampton for a couple days at sea – so let’s look at the ship!
