Fishing and enjoying time on the water with good friends last week. We caught speckled seatrout for dinner and we managed to coax a 27” snook out of the mangrove roots. The highlight of the day was watching a “family” of manatees as we drifted over grass flats near Anna Maria Island.

I had a great time fishing in the 2nd Annual Reel for Rotary fishing tournament with my friends Billy and Michelle.

Inshore slam with a side of flounder. 20” trout, 18” flounder and short redfish and snook. The osprey was guarded the nest. I saw one chick pop their head up briefly. The manatee came up to the boat as I drifted a grass flat casting a jig.

Good morning. If you were staying at Stillwater Resort at Lake Pomme de Terre - Wheatland, MO you could see a sunrise like this every morning! It’s a perfect way to start the day before heading out on the lake or watching the races at Lucas Oil Speed Way.

The oak tree near the deck is a favorite roosting spot for bald eagles. I watched this one fly up with a fish in its talons. The cove where Stillwater Resort is located is also a great place to view osprey and eagles. During spring and fall migrations loons, American white pelicans and many other waterfowl visit this area. I haven’t had any encounters with musky while targeting them but I did play one briefly that bit my 1/16oz Roadrunner style crappie jig rigged with a “Ice Out” color Bobby Garland Baby Swim-R as I retrieved it alongside a floating dock that has a brush pile beneath it. I was able bring it up close enough to the surface to get a good look at it in the clear water and see it was long enough to count in a tournament. Then it realized it was hooked and the 4lb test line didn’t survive long after that. 🤣
A couple keeper size bass also liked that same jig.
