One of the great things about staying in the West Branch area is how close you are to some really unique courses. Just a short drive away are The Nightmare and The Dream Golf Courses, known for their beautiful layouts and memorable holes.

After a long day on the course, it’s always nice to come back, relax, and enjoy a quiet evening in the woods.

If you'd like to ride north you have .9 Miles to access the Ambrose Lake to Ogemaw Hills Trail system; from there Northern Michigan is at your fingertips.
If you'd like to ride south in a short 586 Yards there is access to Dow Rd and the beginning of the Ogemaw Hills Trail System which features trails with High Clearance, 4x4, ATV, SxS, Dirt Bike, Etc.

The Story Behind Into The Woods We Go Retreat

The name Into The Woods We Go Retreat is a heartfelt tribute to Jim’s mom, Karen. Karen spent her entire life in Northern Michigan. She grew up in Grayling and later settling in West Branch, where she raised her family. In 2008, she moved into this home, a place she truly loved and enjoyed for many years.

When Dorothy would bring her sons to visit their grandma, she often sang, “Over the hill and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go.” That cherished memory inspired our family when choosing a name for the retreat, making it a meaningful way to honor Karen and her deep connection to this home and the surrounding woods.

We also included subtle touches throughout the house in her memory, including a bird-print kitchen curtain and living room curtain rods with bird finials—small nods to Karen’s love of birdwatching and feeding birds.

We hope our guests find as much comfort, joy, and warmth in this home as our family has over the years.

🌲 Meet Your Hosts: Jim & Dorothy Munn

We’re Jim and Dorothy Munn, proud new owners of this cozy northern Michigan getaway! We’ve been married for 23 years and are the parents of three wonderful boys, two in college and one in high school.

A love for the outdoors has shaped our entire lives. Whether it’s skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, camping, biking, hunting, fishing, or even dressage horseback riding, we’re happiest when we’re outside exploring. Northern Michigan has always been a special place for us, and we’re thrilled to share that joy with others.

This home holds deep meaning for our family. After Jim’s mom passed away earlier this summer, we decided to purchase the house and turn it into a welcoming vacation rental where new memories can be made. Our hope is that guests feel the same peace, adventure, and connection here that our family has cherished for years.

We can’t wait to host you and help make your visit to northern Michigan unforgettable. 💚

We’re excited to finally share this place. Tucked into the woods near West Branch, this home was designed to be comfortable, easy, and welcoming — a place to relax, spend time together, and enjoy everything Northern Michigan has to offer.

From mornings on the deck to evenings around the fire pit (and a game-room garage for some fun), it’s a space meant for families, friends, and anyone looking for a quiet getaway. We’re looking forward to hosting and welcoming guests to the area.
