Québec City, Canada
January is great for: free-spirited skiing and a glimpse of France in North America.

The postcard-pretty Québec City looks like a movie set’s idea of an old French town, with cobbled streets and low-rise buildings; 95 percent of the local population is Francophone. Indeed, its commitment to preserving the character of the 400-year-old town has earned the charming alleys UNESCO World Heritage status.

January, with average highs of 10 degrees Fahrenheit, may not be the prime time to relish Québec City’s sidewalk café culture, but it is the perfect chance to take to the nearby mountains for some of North America’s best skiing. Mont-Sainte-Anne is only about 25 miles from downtown: A massive network of paths through pine and spruce forest make it the continent’s largest spot for cross-country skiing, and 19 of its trails stay lit after dark for night skiing. Better, though, to drive a little further to Le Massif de Charlevoix, an hour outside the city, where lots of fresh natural powder falls on slopes perched right on the St. Lawrence River and a large area is dedicated to backcountry skiing.

Zambia
The African country of Zambia, famous for its safari opportunities and the spectacular Victoria Falls, is one of only 10 countries to receive the State Department's lowest travel advisory as of November 12. The Level 1 advisory recommends that travelers exercise normal precautions in Zambia and reflects the Level 1 Travel Health Notice issued by the CDC. "Make sure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to Zambia," the agency advises.

"In a letter to industry leaders last night, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said cruises could resume sailing from U.S. ports in mid-July.

The CDC will require that ships guarantee that at least 98% of crew and 95% of passengers are fully vaccinated. This rule is in keeping with decisions already made by many other countries to require proof of vaccination in order for cruise ships to operate again.

A vaccine requirement is not favored by all travelers but the cruise lines have no choice in the matter, they will not be allowed to operate otherwise."

Holy history, right?! The earliest known celebration was held on March 17, 1631. That’s over 1,500 years ago!
Fun Fact #3: The First St Patrick’s Day Parade was in America
Even though the holiday had been celebrated for centuries in Ireland, the first actual parade began in the United States.

Rocky Mountaineer USA Train Adventure
Many of us have been anxious to ride the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada, but unable to due to the current state of the world.
A new route in the United States was recently announced by Rocky Mountaineer, for travel in 2021. The Rockies to the Red Rocks route will be a two-day train journey between Denver, Colorado, and Moab, Utah, with an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.



“Launching this route for a 10-week preview season in 2021 to have a travel option for US travelers, should they be unable to travel to Canada or prefer to travel within their own country. We believe this route is the ideal complement to our existing routes in Western Canada and will appeal to travelers worldwide as we bring the Rocky Mountaineer experience to showcase a new region in the Southwest United States.

For the 2021 preview season, we will be offering 40 departures across 10 weeks from August 15 to October 23, 2021, before launching a full five-month season schedule for 2022 and beyond. Guests will travel in our SilverLeaf Service coaches and enjoy the complete Rocky Mountaineer experience, including onboard storytelling, premium cuisine, compelling scenery, and social atmosphere in a custom-designed glass-dome coach.

The two-day rail journeys, including a one-night hotel accommodation in Glenwood Springs, will start from $1,250 USD plus tax per person. A refundable deposit of $25 USD as of Thursday, November 19.
