Sometimes the cheapest cruise isn't about WHERE you go — it's about WHEN you go.

Alaska in May can look very different from Alaska in July. The Caribbean and Bahamas can get tempting prices in the fall, but that's also hurricane season. And Europe outside the summer rush may mean cooler weather in exchange for potentially better fares.

That's the trade-off with shoulder-season cruising: you may save money, but you're not necessarily getting the destination at its most popular time.

Personally, if the difference were big enough, I'd happily compromise on perfect weather.

The first few hours on a new cruise ship can feel like you need GPS just to find lunch 😂

Every corridor looks the same, you take the wrong elevator, and somehow you end up at the theater when you were trying to find the buffet.

But most ships start making sense surprisingly quickly once you learn a few reference points.

Know forward from aft. Remember which elevators are closest to your cabin. Learn the pool deck, dining areas and atrium. And actually READ the signs instead of assuming the crowd knows where it’s going.

By Day 2 or 3, you’ll probably be navigating like you’ve been onboard all week.

Probably.
