The fish were biting… the wind was howling… and Alaska kept showing off.

Today I found myself standing along the famous Russian River on Alaska’s breathtaking Kenai Peninsula.

Cold?
You bet.

Windy?
Absolutely.

Rainy?
Off and on all day.

Worth it?

Every single second.

I watched anglers patiently working the river, hoping for that perfect catch, while towering mountains, rushing glacial water, and fresh mountain air reminded me that some places are simply meant to be experienced, not hurried through.

Then I wandered over to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where I met moose, musk oxen, bears, ravens, and even a busy little beaver who was enjoying lunch while the rest of us watched.

One thing I’ve learned on this adventure…

Whether you’re standing beside a river in Alaska or watching a Wyoming sunset back home, nature has a way of reminding us to slow down and appreciate where we are.

Pack a rain jacket… and your camera. Alaska doesn’t wait for perfect weather to show off.

🐾 Pete’s Postcard: Rainy Days in Anchorage ☔

Well… Alaska decided today was perfect weather for ducks… and maybe prairie dogs, too. 🌧️

When the rain rolls in, you don’t stop exploring… you just explore a little differently!

Today I wandered through the Anchorage Visitor Information Center, learned about Alaska’s incredible history, stood beneath some HUGE king crab legs (those things are no joke!), came face-to-face with a polar bear that definitely had me checking my six, and discovered how Alaska Wild Berry Products keeps the sweet side of Alaska flowing… especially that incredible chocolate waterfall!

I even strolled through the famous Anchorage Mushing District. Rain or shine, this city has stories around every corner.

Travel Tip from Pete:
Don’t let a rainy day ruin your adventure. Some of the best discoveries happen indoors, and every destination has hidden gems waiting to be found.

🦌 Reindeer Farm

Pete’s Postcard #1

Today I made some new friends…

They’re a little fuzzier and friendlier than the cattle back home and a lot more interested in snacks.

Who knew reindeer were this friendly? I’ve heard they stay pretty busy around Christmas, but today they took time to show this Wyoming cowboy around.

Now I’m wondering…

Do you think Rudolph has cousins in Platte County? ❤️

Well folks… it’s official.

I’ve traded sagebrush for jet fuel and I’m headed north!

Next stop… ALASKA! 🛫🐻🏔️

I’ve packed my backpack, polished my boots, and I’m ready to discover everything the Last Frontier has to offer. Don’t worry though… Wyoming is home, and I’ll be telling everyone I meet about Platte County along the way.
