We are trying to finish up what we can of some of our projects from this past year.
Our traveling researchers, Ashley and Tonya, have found a treasure trove of lost information that pertains to KRHD and what would become Flagler County. Will it change some of what is thought to have happened here? Stay tuned...
This makes 423 posts on the KRHD page. 48 recipes have been shared. 9 historic sites have been visited and either have or are still being documented. We have attended 6 events from Volusia, Flagler, Putnam, and St. Johns Counties. We launched a website and started a YouTube channel. We even had a post reach 3.3 million people (on bacon grease of all things, lol).
So, as we are finishing up the book of the year 2023, we want to thank you all for your interest in our project. Besides the fun of seeing our work liked and shared, our biggest reward is seeing comments like " I remember my grand/parents doing or talking about that" or the conversations that happen off of a post. In one case, a pair of cousins (who didn't know each other) met through a post conversation.
The picture is one of my favorites. We were working on what we now know was Haw Creek Road, it was early morning, and fog was rising out of Huletts Branch. It is a reminder that our past is still out there, just obscured by time and neglect. It's up to us to see it and tell the story of what was.
