The absolute peak of adventure and history meet in the anchient ruins of Peru. šµšŖ
Most importantly, the summer tourist swarms havenāt descended on the mountains just yet either.
ā
Why May is the best time:
1. Machu Picchu: This is the month for the iconic shot. Visibility is 10/10 as the mist clears and grass turns a vibrant green. Itās also the closest youāll get to having the Lost City to yourself before the June/July rush. šø
2. Cusco: The city is buzzing but breathable. The cobblestone streets and markets are at their most charming, and the nightlife is hitting its stride right before the peak season madness. šŗšļø
3. A masterclass for your tasebuds: May is harvest season in the highlands, so youāre getting the freshest ingredients in Lima (the worldās #1 food city) and the most authentic āPachamancaā (earth oven) feasts in the mountains. š½ļøš
ā Unskipable advice:
The Altitude: It doesnāt matter how fit you are; 3,400m hits different. If you donāt spend your first two days in the Sacred Valley or Cusco chilling with coca tea, youāll spend your vacation with a migraine.š
The Permit Hunt: If you want to hike the classic Inca Trail, you need to book 6 months out. If youāre just deciding to go now, look into the Salkantay Trekāitās more rugged, more scenic, and doesnāt sell out as fast. šļø
The Sun is a Laser: At this altitude, the sun will cook you in 15 minutes, even if it feels ācoolā out. Wear high-SPF or cover up... or prepare to look like a lobster in your Machu Picchu photos. āļøš¦
