These awe-inspiring displays have captivated visitors and residents alike, offering a unique glimpse into the island's dynamic geology.
When witnessing Kīlauea’s powerful eruption at Volcanoes National Park, be sure to admire this natural force with respect and caution. As eruptions intensify, increasing amounts of Pele’s hair (fine strands of volcanic glass) can be seen falling around the summit and nearby areas. To stay safe, enjoy the view from designated overlooks, avoid restricted areas, and protect yourself from Pele’s hair by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Never touch Pele’s hair as it is bad for your skin and eyes.
