David Alusick, our fulfillment coordinator and office assistant, is noting his two-year anniversary with Visit Luzerne County! David is with us three days per week and is often one of the first people on our staff to greet our guests. David also handles the mailed distribution of our Visitors Guides and updates our website with event listings. He has a long history at the historic train station, having worked as a greeter at The Station restaurant, hotel and nightclub in the 1980s. No one seems to love our building more that David and he brings that enthusiasm to work each day! Happy anniversary!

Attention softball sluggers! The Babe Ruth Sultan of Swat Home Run Derby will return to Kirby Park in October! It’s your chance to take your best swings at the same spot near where Babe Ruth once hit a 650-foot home run! There will be “Sultan of Swat” trophies for the longest home runs and “Bambino” trophies for the most home runs. We were out and about today, placing these posters at softball fields around the valley, including Kirby Park, The Kingston Rec, and Coal Street. ïżŒSign up today at visitluzernecounty.com

At tonight’s meeting of Luzerne County Council, council approved the county’s purchase of the historic train station in Wilkes-Barre, which has been our home – as a tenant – since 2022. Built in 1868, the former Central Railroad of New Jersey was a busy, working train station for 104 years. Later, from 1980 through 2005, it was a popular nightclub and restaurant. In 1975, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. And for us at Visit Luzerne County, we could not ask for a better home. We are in the business of promoting attractions, and our office is an attraction in itself. And it is with great pride that we use it to help showcase all of the great things to see and do in Luzerne County and throughout NEPA.

Thank you, to Luzerne County management and Luzerne County Council, for ensuring that this will be the home of the Luzerne County Convention & Visitors Bureau for many years to come. We promise to take great care of her. 🚂

Today, we honor and reflect upon our fallen heroes. Though all of us here at Visit Luzerne County hope that everyone is enjoying the holiday, and are perhaps firing up the grill for a family cookout, we also remember the solemnness and the true meaning of Memorial Day. And we sincerely thank those that gave all to help preserve our freedom. đŸ‡ș🇾
