Currently on safari in Botswana and giving the Savanna Dream Safaris bird and wildlife checklist quite a workout. So many wonderful birds on this trip including a few we don’t normally see, like Meyers Parrot and the Pearl Spotted Owlet.

Our clients have just wrapped up the safari portion of their incredible South African journey and are now winding down in Cape Town and the beautiful Franschhoek Winelands.

So far, some of the messages we have received include:

Happy Safari Sunday! 🌍

As Billy heads out today for (another) Trip of a Lifetime, I must ask you ~

Wouldn’t You Rather Be on Safari? 🦁🐾

Imagine waking before sunrise to the distant call of a lion. You grab a cup of coffee, wrap yourself in a warm blanket and head out as the African bush begins to stir.

Your morning might bring elephants gathering at a waterhole, a leopard lounging in a tree or a pride of lions returning from a night of hunting. No two game drives are ever the same.

By late morning, you are back at camp for a delicious brunch, followed by time to relax, enjoy the pool, read on your veranda or simply watch wildlife wander past.

Later, afternoon tea is served before you head back into the bush. As the sun begins to set, your guide finds the perfect spot for sundowners. A gin and tonic in hand, brilliant African skies overhead and wildlife all around you. It really does not get much better.

After dark, you return to camp for cocktails, dinner under the stars and stories around the fire before falling asleep to the sounds of the African night.

Tomorrow, you wake up and do it all again, but somehow, it is never the same.

Apparently, being your safari experts means we get emotionally invested in your vacation too.

And we mean REALLY invested😂

We’re checking your overnight flights and our WhatsApp before we’ve even had coffee

We’re wondering if you love the camps we spent months choosing as much as we do

We’re following wildlife sightings and waiting for that first photo from the bush

And yes, we’re probably telling anyone who will listen, “Our clients are in Botswana right now!” as though everyone personally knows you😂

Planning a safari is deeply personal to us.

Our job is so much more than choosing beautiful camps and booking flights between them.

We know which camps are worth your time and money, which guides are exceptional, which rooms to request, how long to stay, when to fly vs drive, and how to piece it all together so your safari feels effortless.

We think about the things you may not even know to ask.

Is the camp in the right location for the season?

Will you lose precious safari time in transit?

Is a private vehicle worth it?

Does the itinerary have enough downtime?

We remember the little things

Some wonderful local clients are currently off enjoying their very first African safari, exploring Botswana and Zimbabwe, and while they’re away, I have a very important job back home…

And apparently, in certain cases, that includes taking care of the four legged family members left behind. 😂

Our favorite animals ... one of life's greatest, most implausible and miraculous creatures. That would be the elephant, of course. These photos are shared on the 2026 World Elephant Day.

Today we celebrate WORLD LION DAY! 🦁

Every safari reminds us just how special lions truly are.
On World Lion Day, we celebrate these magnificent cats and our shared responsibility to protect them and the wild places they call home.

World Lion Day is celebrated on August 10th. It is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about the threats facing lions, promoting conservation efforts, and celebrating their critical role in the ecosystem

Global Wild Total: Roughly 20,000–35,000 individuals.

Tanzania (Africa): Estimated between 8,000 and 17,000 (highest national count).

Other African Strongholds: South Africa (~3,200),
Botswana (~3,000),
Kenya (~2,500), and Zambia (~2,300).

India (Asiatic Lions): Officially recorded at 891 individuals following recent state and parliamentary census updates.
