Happy Safari Sunday! 🦒🐘🦁

Nobody tells you that Africa will completely sneak up on you.

You think you’re going for the wildlife (which of course is incredible), but somewhere along the way something changes. The sunsets, the sounds, the people, the campfires, the rhythm of it all… it gets into your soul.

You’ll become obsessed with African sunsets and then completely blown away by the night skies. With no city lights around, staring up at the Milky Way in the middle of the bush is something you never forget.

You’ll voluntarily wake up at 5 am excited for coffee and a morning game drive.

And somehow you’ll become a birder. 🦉 One minute you’re looking for lions and the next you’re asking your guide to stop so you can identify a lilac breasted roller or a fish eagle.

You’ll cry leaving camp staff and already be trying to figure out how to get back before you’ve even made it home.

Africa does that ❤️🌍

Billy is considering leading a photo trip to Zambia in the latter part of 2027. This will be a serious working trip for the serious safari goer. A challenging trip but rewarding. Anyone interested??

The itinerary will certainly include South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi National Parks. Might add Kafue NP if we can make it work. This trip is in the concept phase for now, but we'd love to make it a reality!!

What if we told you one of the best times to go on Safari is when no one else is there? Billy and his wife Cindy just returned from two incredible weeks in southern Africa during the green season, and it completely delivered. Think lush green landscapes, dramatic skies, and wildlife sightings that felt like they were theirs alone. The sightings were unreal. A young female leopard swimming straight towards them, hours spent with playful lion cubs, and while at 1 camp wild dogs hunting on every single game drive. This week we explore Southern Africa in the Green Season 🌿

Traveling to the Okavango Delta during the green season can be incredibly rewarding. April, in particular, is a bit of a sweet spot—fewer travelers, lush landscapes, and an abundance of migratory birds, all while wildlife activity remains unique and exciting.

Billy and his wife, Cindy just returned from a two week journey through southern Africa, with stays at three extraordinary Great Plains camps in the Delta, along with a visit to Tanda Tula Safari Camp in South Africa’s Timbavati Reserve.

At Selinda Explorer Camp, they were one of only two sets of guests, and at Okavango Explorer Camp, they had the entire camp to themselves. It’s a rare and very special way to experience the Delta. Throughout the trip, they were paired with exceptional guides and had spectacular at every stop.

In the Selinda region, the spillways were full and water covered parts of the roadways—but those conditions led to something unforgettable. After a long pause, a young female leopard gathered the courage to swim directly across a channel toward them. At Duba, they spent hours with a lively group of lion cubs, and in Timbavati, saw wild dogs hunting on every single game drive.
