Getting ready to apply for your first ever U.S. passport? Here’s what you need to know to start the process:
1. For your first passport, you must apply in person and can do so at one of our 7,500 acceptance facilities. You can find one near you at iafdb.travel.state.gov.
2. You will use the DS-11 form. DO NOT SIGN the form until you’re in front of a passport acceptance agent.
3. Your evidence of U.S. citizenship must have the original, official seal or stamp of the government office that issued it.
4. Go to the official U.S. government website, travel.state.gov/passport for step-by-step instructions. Do not pay more or share your personal information on a third-party site.
