We are incredibly honored that our non-profit, Hanging Up The Harness (HUTH), is partnering with the amazing crew at Chickenstock Music Festival to celebrate and honor working sled dogs with the “Pet Parade for a Purpose” this June 11-13th on the legendary festival grounds at the Top of the World in Chicken, Alaska.

This year’s parade helps support retired canine athletes through our HUTH adoption program—giving these incredible dogs the transition, care, and forever homes they deserve after years of dedication on the trail.

And truly… none of this happens alone. Thank you all for the support as we launch into a new era of growth and increasing capacity to serve the sled dogs we honor and love.

Huge gratitude to our HUTH supporters over the years, to Carrie for the heart and steady dedication she brings every single day, to Darlette for her ongoing support, heart centered dog care, and belief in the mission, and to the interns who have rolled up their sleeves through mud, snow, cold, chores, and long days to help us care for these incredible dogs. This community effort is what keeps moving everything forward.

If you were lucky enough to score tickets to the 20th Anniversary Chickenstock Festival (June 11–13), bring your:
🐾 Dogs
🐔 Chickens
🦆 Weird little festival creatures
(And no… kids don’t qualify here 😏)

🐾 Suggested donation entry: $5–$20 sliding scale
🎁 Every participant receives a Chickenstock leash OR collar
(All proceeds benefit HUTH)

And yes… there will absolutely be prizes 👀

🏆 Hiking Adventure Kit — $215 value
🏆 Summer Adventure Kit — $165 value
🏆 Doggie High Fashion Kit — $130 value

This is going to be hilarious, heartfelt, and wonderfully Chickenstock.

Come celebrate dogs, community, second chances, and a whole lot of personality with us this June.

Out on the trail, sled dogs are all business—quiet, focused, moving like a single unit through the snow. 🐾❄️

But before that? It’s a whole different world. While getting harnesses on, our sled dogs had heard the neighbor's kennel "harnessing up" just a few moments earlier. The howls carried for miles to our camp in the woods. Our sled dogs knew the neighbor teams were coming, and greeted them with this howl.

You can hear that the sled dogs can’t hold back their yearning, their desire to be running in the team again on these perfect spring trails. Be more like a sled dog is the take away! Focus on your passions, and follow them with all you have.

There’s something special about this time of year at the Alaska Dog Center in Willow. Longer days, softer light, and the simple rhythm of camping out with the dogs.

Spring runs with our sled dogs and rescues are some of our favorite moments — no rush, just miles of quiet trail, wagging tails, and that feeling of being exactly where we’re meant to be.

It’s a season of transition, fresh starts, and time well spent together. 🐾
