With a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a minor in Business Administration, I’ve worn a few hats over the years—staff accountant, marketing specialist, and most recently, executive assistant. 🎃🚢 Two 7-night Caribbean cruises. Two completely different experiences. One unforgettable October.

As we close out October, I’ve been thinking about two very different cruise experiences I had this month, and just how much the cruise experience can change depending on how you choose to sail.

Disney Cruise Line: A themed Halloween cruise filled with festive fun, Disney magic, immersive entertainment, and all the special touches that make a themed sailing feel like an experience in itself.

NCL Luna: A suite experience that offered a completely different perspective on cruising, with a focus on elevated comfort, relaxation, and enjoying the journey in a different way.

Both were seven days in the Caribbean. Both gave me time at sea and time in paradise. But the atmosphere, the onboard experience, and the way I enjoyed each vacation were completely different. That’s one of the things I love most about cruising!

There isn't just one way to cruise, and one brand doesn't have to fit every travel style or every vacation. Sometimes you want the themed magic and nonstop excitement. Other times, you want the suite life and a different level of comfort. And sometimes, you want to experience both.

🌴 Same Caribbean. Same seven nights. Two very different ways to vacation.

As I wrap up October, I'm reminded that experiencing different cruise lines isn't about deciding which one is better, it's about discovering what each does differently and finding the experience that's right for you.

🚢 CRUISE MYTH: “I’m afraid I’ll feel the ship moving.”

This is one of the reasons I hear from people who haven’t tried a cruise yet, and I get it! The thought of being on a moving ship can make some people hesitant.

But here’s my experience from my most recent cruise…

I literally forgot at times that I was on a ship! Unless I was out on deck or standing on my balcony watching the scenery move past, I often wouldn’t have even known we were sailing. That’s how little motion I noticed.

And ship technology has come a LONG way! Today’s newer ships feature advanced stabilization systems designed to help reduce the rolling motion you might associate with being at sea. While no ship can eliminate movement completely, the difference can be impressive.

Of course, every sailing is different, and weather and sea conditions play a role. But if fear of motion is the main thing keeping you from experiencing a cruise, don’t let that assumption make the decision for you just yet!

Traveling with a family can mean a lot of packing. Self service laundry facilities are a game changer. Knowing at some point in your trip, you can throw a load of clothes in on the way to breakfast or the pool takes loads of stress away. This video is just a small glimpse of the very large laundry available on the Disney Treasure. I absolutely took advantage of it!

I just love the Oceanview Verandah on the Disney Treasure! This balcony cabin is a great example of why where your cabin is located matters just as much as the cabin category you choose. Most of these cabins have excellent views, but there are locations where a lifeboat may be in view as is the case with my cabin.

I booked this one last minute (just 3 weeks ago and this sailing was almost sold out), so I knew I’d have fewer location options—and this cabin does have a slightly obstructed view. But as you can see, it’s still a beautiful, comfortable space with a balcony I’m enjoying!

One of the benefits of working with a travel advisor is having someone who knows the ships and can help you look beyond just “balcony” or “oceanview.” Deck, location, proximity to elevators, noise, views and potential obstructions can all make a difference in your experience.

Booking early matter as you’ll typically have a much better selection of cabin locations to choose from.

So yes, the room matters. But knowing which room to book matters, too. 😉

If you know, you know! There’s nothing like a port day and coming back to the ship, getting cleaned up and ordering room service!

Today, we spent a fabulous day at 7-mile beach in Grand Cayman!

Room service is included in your cruise fare with Disney, so I’m sitting on my balcony enjoying a grilled cheese, tomato soup and some chocolate chip cookies!
