Year two with my little šŸŽ€šŸ£ was fast and slow at the same time.
Stayed mostly domestic, besides Canada, and still haven’t been on a plane. But that doesn’t mean we’ve stayed still for long.
So many sweet summer trips, and a 6 month cross country road trip.
She’s been to 27 states so far, touched saguaros and redwoods, been tide pooling and hand fed prairie dogs, seen countless waterfalls, rock arches, and developed a healthy obsession with banana slugs, and loves dinosaurs - after hiking to seeing their fossils.

It had been years since I visited the Ocean State, there was a lot to catch up on.
Stuffies and clam cakes, natural chowder and doughboys, dels and local ice cream shops. But a long enough stay to deviate from local classic seafood fare and see pizza strips and yelps top 2 Chinese spot in the country.
Trolls and aquariums, a revisit to see the emus at the fantastic umbrella factory, farm stands and ruins.
Reaching the high point (it’s low), hitting the beach, catching a Peter Toth, and seeing a Viking rune stone.
It was a whirlwind, and I know I have to come back one day because I’ve still never made it to Block Island. See you next time RI.

I spent a week in Rhode Island this summer and dipped into the famous town of Newport many times during my stay. Of course I did the Cliff Walk, strolling by the Breakers and more exciting to me - the mansion that the old spooky drama ā€œDark Shadowsā€ took place.
Explored downtown seeing the wharfs, sculptures, historic buildings, and eating one of the best cinnamon rolls of all time.
Hiked one of the loveliest coastal scenes in the area, popped into two aquariums, and hit up the local art museum. Stopped at a farm stand that had a delectable cider donut.
So much to see in this classic city, you could certainly make a whole trip out of it - but the rest of the state has so much to offer as well.

Parks, museums, architecture, poutine, and pastries galore. A revisit to Montreal after over a decade and it still holds as a classic destination where you can feel very international just driving over the border from New York.

Give me a week in the mountains somewhere I’ve never seen before and I’ll be the happiest creature in the forest.
Loved summiting as many little peaks as I could, catching all the waterfalls, and soaking up the adorable village.
As always in Quebec I tried poutine in various ways - breakfast, crepe, gnocchi. Also was happy to find maple taffy, a unique dessert where fresh warm syrup is spilled on snow and eaten from a stick.
Just a short drive north of Montreal - easily accessed from New York, this was a great international vacation.

Summer is half way through and speeding by like it always does. I love me a local Long Island summer between travels, from the beach to the woods on repeat every day, watching all the wildlife and seeing all the small changes, trying to make it slow down.

Driving home from Maryland to New York, I couldn’t resist a stop in Philly. It’s been too long since I’ve been able to visit and the cheesesteaks were calling. There is always a new museum, a new historical site, a new pocket of the city that I’ve never seen before.
This was a very brief visit when I was able to enjoy the Museum of Wood, exploring some of the best architecture in the city, visiting some Benjamin Franklin sites including his grave, and adding a new favorite restaurant to my list - still drooling. Next time!

You went on vacation where?
This is what everybody was asking me when I got back from my trip to Maryland. One part Baltimore (ok they get this), the other part Frederick (?!).
I’ve had my eye on Frederick for a long time though. I like that there are a lot of Appalachian mountains within reach of the city and the day-tripability.
From Frederick I was able to hit Harpers Ferry, Berkeley Springs, national battlefields, farms, all while enjoying the cute downtown and local nature parks. There’s a lot to offer, and some great food too. Loved my visit to this area.

Baltimore is the one city on the eastern seaboard that has eluded me all these years. I’ve passed through a quarter of a million times, but never made a proper stop. It was always on the to-do list, until this summer! My Baltimore bucket list has been established forever, so the plan materialized quite easily and I have to say I absolutely loved the city. It definitely gets a hard rap, but there is so much color and fun and amazing food and history.
I ate my weight in crabcakes, went to all of the art museums I could cram in (will never forget the American Visionary Art Museum! Check for free events like flicks on the hill), ticked off the main tourist destinations like the aquarium (half off on Friday evenings) and the harbor - Fort McHenry (free national park entries throughout the year - check the calendar), and made sure I visited the hidden gems too like the Rawlings Conservatory (free).
I definitely have a shortlist for a return visit at some point, there are some more crabcakes I need to consume. Till next time!

Harpers Ferry was the first spot I ever visited in West Virginia many years ago. I was staying close enough in Maryland that I decided to revisit and see some spots I hadn’t covered before.
Loved all of the history, hiking all over, visiting a historical candy store, and an excellent local bakery.
