George E. Osterhout was one of Windsor's early pioneers. Moving to the area in 1885, he played an important role in the expansion of the town. Osterhout established the first lumber yard in Windsor and built the structure at 411 Main Street (present day Lakeview Tattoo Parlor). His roles in Windsor also included helping compose the petition for the official incorporation of the town in 1890, and served as chairman for the formation of the Windsor Library Associate in 1906. Osterhout's accomplishments don't end there, he was also a renowned botanist, known "as one of the best authorities ofotany in the West, "classifying over 20,000 plants. This year, Arbor Day will be observed on Friday, April 25. This holiday encourages people and communities to give back to nature by planting trees. This is a long-standing tradition in Windsor, with first reports in the Windsor Beacon of Arbor Day activities in the early 1900s. Early commemorations in Windsor includes local schools and students planting trees around the school grounds.

Enjoy this poem written by Maude M. Grant, featured in "The W.H.S. Wizard Weekly" section of the Windsor Beacon, April 23, 1936.
