This is a portrait of the Hettinger children, taken around 1892 in Russia. The three eldest children in the photograph, Jacob, Mary and George, were the only ones among their siblings to survive to adulthood. Between 1906-1907, the the three siblings and their spouses all immigrated to the United States. They all first settled in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska and worked as sugar beet laborers. By 1920, Mary and her husband, along with their seven children, had settled in Windsor working on a sugar beet farm. Jacob and his wife were living near Severance with their six children.
Photograph is from the Town of Windsor Museum Permanent Collection.
