Who wants to go and cut their own tree this year?? 🙋♀️
Christmas Magic is in the air on the Kern River Ranger District
It may only be November but get ready to ring in the holiday spirit – Sequoia National Forest’s Kern River Ranger District Online Christmas Tree Permits will be available on Recreation.gov beginning Monday, November 13 at 8 am!
Fourth graders with Every Kid Outdoors pass are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit and can apply by entering the pass or voucher number when purchasing a permit (note: a $2.50 reservation fee will be applied).
With the permit, you can visit the Kern River Ranger District’s designated areas to cut down your Christmas Tree. This special event is the perfect way to start or carry on a special tradition, make memories in the , and ring in the Christmas spirit, all while helping to maintain a healthy forest.
The permit system helps to thin densely populated stands of small-diameter trees. Local forest health experts identify areas that benefit from thinning trees that are the perfect size for Christmas trees. Removing these trees in designated areas helps other trees grow larger and can open areas that provide food for wildlife.
Jingle bell rock your way over Recreation.gov Monday starting at 8 am for a Christmas Tree Permit.
