Unmasking the Tactics: A Wake-Up Call for Ossipee Lake's Boating Community!
Hey fellow lake lovers and adventure seekers! As the proud owner of Epic Seaplane Adventures, I’ve always believed in sharing the magic of New Hampshire’s waters from above—safe, scenic flights that bring joy to families and thrill-seekers alike. But today, I’m shining a light on a coordinated, underhanded plot that’s got me fired up (in the best way—because truth always wins).
Here’s what happened: David Smith, Executive Director of the Ossipee Lake Alliance (OLA), emailed me posing as an “investigative reporter” claiming he was looking into “community complaints” about seaplane safety.
→ He grilled me on flight paths, proximity to boats, swimmers, and “potential dangers.”
→ This wasn’t journalism. It was a setup.
The source of the complaint?
→ Gloria Villari, OLA Board Member (and Secretary of the Broad-Leavitt Bay Association)—the very person who filed the original concern with NHDOT.
That’s right: Two top OLA leaders—Smith and Villari—were colluding behind the scenes, using fake concern and deceptive tactics to target a perfectly safe, FAA-compliant operation.
Radical activism disguised as caution. But here’s the official truth, straight from NH Department of Transportation Commissioner William Cass, P.E.:"We do not see any safety issues with this landing area... To date, we have not received any notifications regarding any specific incident(s)... The email only expressed concern about the possibility of an incident." "The aircraft when taxing is in fact considered a boat, therefore it both safe and appropriate that a seaplane can taxi near other boats as long as they follow all the marine laws and rules of navigation." "Hopefully this answers your concerns."
Translation:
No safety issues
No incidents
100% legal & safe
“Possibility” ≠ proof
OLA is well-known for fierce environmental activism—and we respect protecting the lake.
But they never side with the boating or aviation community, even on simple, safe, legal activities? That’s not protection. That’s control. We love this lake. We fly safely. We follow every rule. And now, the state has confirmed it. Time to rise above the noise.
