Day #6 “Trains of WV, The Greenbrier Resort, & Fallingwater”

Another wonderful day filled with beautiful sites before we turn back to Pittsburgh for our last nights stay.

I hope you have enjoyed all the wonderful places we ventured to!

Day #5. “Trains of WV, The Greenbrier Resort, & Fallingwater”

All aboard the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad on the New Tygart Flyer out of Elkins, WV. This wilderness excursion featured an “S” curve tunnel, a high bridge, and unspoiled mountain views. Our diesel powered locomotive ran along side the cascading Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls of Cheat. Another beautiful day!

The Cass Scenic Railroad is Geared Steam, USA, boasting the largest collection of operating geared steam locomotives in the world.

The railroad was originally part of West Virginia Pulp & Paper's massive timber operations centered within the small community of Cass, West Virginia, situated deep within the Appalachian Mountains.

Day #3 “Trains of WV, The Greenbrier Resort, & Fallingwater”

The Greenbrier Bunker Tour-
Exposed in 1992 by the Washington Post, the Bunker at The Greenbrier was one of America’s most closely guarded Cold War secrets. The underground relocation center for the U.S. Congress was in readiness from 1962-1992, complete with House and Senate chambers, dorms, power plant, clinic, cafeteria…even a decontamination area. We learned how it was kept hidden for more than 30 years.
We were not allowed to take our phones into the Bunker…so sorry no pictures, but it was so interesting!

“Orley’s Amish Mystery & Brown Bag Tour” yesterday in Shipshewana. We started our day with a little shopping at E & S Sales before hitting the road with Orley our Amish step-on guide. The pictures will walk you through our day. Sorry to say I was too busy eating at Yoder’s Home Style Cooking to take a picture! Carolyn is a wonderful cook and is also Orley’s daughter. We always eat at her house for lunch. Our day ended with a quick last minute shopping stop at Yoder’s Department store before heading home. Oh yes and we had a few goodies to put in our Brown Bag along the way! 🙂
