Lucas Berg Nature Preserve Join the fight! Help protect the people of Worth and Lucas Berg by preventing the destruction of this beautiful natural site by developers.

After 56 years of fighting to open it to the public for recreation and stewardship the time is now. This is a local wetland and gem of the Southwest side. We need your help to prevent the USACE from destroying the natural ecosystem that has evolved from a mined out gravel pit. In the 1980's they planned on placing dredged material from the Chicago area waterways here. That was a mistake then and is certainly a terrible reality now. Help us show public interest in protecting this beautiful site.

Well we heard the 10,000 foot view "plan" at the Village board meeting Tuesady. Thanks to all who came out to support and to the Village board for asking really great questions. Plenty to discuss and digest. Special thanks to the Lucas Family and Friends of the Chicago River for illustrating the importance of this precious aquatic site! Conversations will continue on how to save this site from being destroyed. More soon......

Status update. The Village board will be hearing a presentation tomorrow concerning a potential buyer for Lucas Berg. The plan is not good for the developed eco system and wetlands there. It will be destroyed. This as we work to get it open to the public for fishing recreation and kayaking. If you’d like to hear more come to the village board meeting tomorrow at 7PM to hear out the developer and ask questions. More to follow. Very sad.
