🎨 Gallery on the Go is officially open!

After 13 months of planning and hard work, Downtown Wytheville Youth Community Ambassador Amelia Sprano has brought her vision to life and completed her Youth project.

Amelia transformed a 1970s cigarette vending machine into something that now brings art and creativity to our community. Gallery on the Go gives local artists from across Southwest Virginia a unique way to showcase, promote, and sell their work. Local artist have created small micro pieces of custom art that are placed in the machine for purchase. Many of these old, refurbished cigarette machines are popular in cities across the nation. We now have one right here in Downtown Wytheville!

This project is a great example of what can happen when we give our young people the opportunity to lead, create, and make an impact in their community.
A big thank you to The Eclectic Pearl for allowing us to showcase Gallery on the Go inside their business and for supporting Amelia’s vision and our local artists!
Stop by, check it out!!

The Town of Wytheville is working on the One Wytheville 2040 Comprehensive Plan. An important part of this plan is understanding the housing needs in our community.

We are asking that you take a few minutes to complete the Housing Survey and share your perspective on housing needs in the Town of Wytheville. We would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the community’s housing needs, priorities, and opportunities for the future.

Complete the survey online:
https://engagekh.mysocialpinpoint.com/one-wytheville

The flyer will also be posted to our town tv’s so you can access the information from there as well.

The survey takes only a few minutes, and your feedback can help shape the future of housing in Wytheville.

A Taste of History in Wytheville!
Some restaurants serve a meal. Others serve a story.
1776 Log House Restaurant is one of those special places. Housed in a building dating back to 1776, this Wytheville favorite has welcomed generations of diners with hearty steaks, Southern hospitality, and a dining experience rooted in history.

Some buildings have been standing since before the United States even existed, and a rare few still serve dinner every day of the week. In a small Virginia

Remembering Raymond Byrd
On August 15, 1926, Raymond Arthur Byrd was taken from the Wythe County jail and murdered by a mob in one of the darkest chapters in Wythe County’s history.
Byrd was 31 years old, a husband, father of three daughters, and World War I veteran who had served in France. Rather than allowing the justice system to determine his fate, a mob took him from the jail and lynched him.
The tragedy sparked outrage throughout Virginia and contributed to the passage of Virginia’s 1928 anti-lynching law. Yet no one was held accountable for Byrd’s murder.
Today, a historical marker stands at the site of the former jail and is commonly referred to as the “LOVE Park”.
One hundred years later, we gather not only to remember what happened, but to honor Raymond Byrd’s life.
Remembering difficult chapters in our history does not diminish a community. It gives us an opportunity to acknowledge the past, honor those who were lost, and reflect on the importance of justice, dignity, and the rule of law.
Join us Saturday, August 15, at 3:00 p.m. for a Commemorative Flower Laying Ceremony at the Raymond Arthur Byrd historical marker, followed by a gathering at the Wytheville Training School Cultural Center.
