From June 12-14, tall ships and military vessels will grace the York River, while exciting entertainment takes over Riverwalk Landingโ€“and it wouldnโ€™t be possible without our amazing sponsors.

Today weโ€™re giving a huge ๐“๐‡๐€๐๐Š ๐˜๐Ž๐” to Visit Williamsburg for helping to bring this event to life. They are sponsoring TWO breathtaking performances โ€“ a ๐“—๐“ช๐“ถ๐“ฒ๐“ต๐“ฝ๐“ธ๐“ท tribute by Broadway star Lexi Lawson and a patriotic concert by The Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra. 1๏ธโƒฃ The first schooner is believed to have been built in 1713 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
2๏ธโƒฃ At the end of the 18th century, schooners were largely used in the fishing industry โ€“ especially in the Grand Banks off Newfoundland -- and for transporting cargo.
3๏ธโƒฃ European shipwrights began making schooner-like vessels overseas in the early 1800s.
4๏ธโƒฃ During the 1850s, schooners played an important role in trade with China and during the California Gold Rush.
5๏ธโƒฃ There are several different types of schooners, such as the Pungy and the Ram.
