Zanesville Memorial Concert Band Announces 2026 Season and Opening Concert โHorizonsโ
ZANESVILLE, OH โ The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band will launch its 103rd season of free summer concerts on Sunday, May 31, at 7:00 p.m. at Zaneโs Landing Park with a season-opening program titled Horizons. In the event of rain, the concert will move to Secrest Auditorium.
The 2026 season features five themed concerts celebrating history, imagination, community, and the enduring tradition of concert band music. Concert themes for the season include Horizons, Voices That Inspire, America250, Circus Days, and Toward a More Perfect Union.
The opening concert, Horizons, explores the history of flight โfrom Kitty Hawk to the International Space Station and beyondโ and will feature the ZMCB High School Honors Band, comprised of outstanding student musicians from throughout southeastern Ohio. The program includes music inspired by aviation, exploration, and adventure, including Strategic Air Command, One Giant Leap, music from Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and John Philip Sousaโs The Stars and Stripes Forever.
The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band has provided free summer concerts to the Muskingum County community since 1923 and continues a band tradition in Zanesville that dates back to the mid-19th century. Today, the ensemble includes musicians from across southeastern Ohio representing a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and musical experiences โ from high school students to musicians in their 80s, and from dedicated amateurs to seasoned professionals.
The organizationโs mission is โto enrich Muskingum County and the Southeastern Ohio region through free summer concerts that celebrate the enduring tradition of concert band music,โ while also providing meaningful performance opportunities for local musicians and inspiring young artists through collaboration with area schools.
The Memorial Band is led by Artistic Director Dr. David Turrill and Assistant Director Kelley Ryan. This yearโs High School Honors Band is conducted by Robert Davis, Director of Bands at Watkins Memorial High School.
All concerts in the 2026 season begin at 7:00 p.m. at Zaneโs Landing Park and are free and open to the public. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor seating.
The 2026 Zanesville Memorial Concert Band season is made possible through support from the Eaton Drone Fund, the John Hoge Musical Fund, the Kathryn B. Geis Educational Trust, community partners, individual donors, and local businesses.
