Why you should include Khiva in your Uzbekistan itinerary👇

This weekend I met my friend from Uzbekistan who is a fan of History and he gave me really interesting information about Khiva which totally underlines why you shouldn't leave it out of your Uzbekistan trip, despite the distance!

1. Khorezm region where Khiva is located was the last region to be incorporated into Uzbekistan. For this, they have different traditions and dialect. My friend mentioned their way to dance and fur hats almost covering their eyes. 😃

2. Khiva's Old Town didn't suffer as much destruction by Russian troops as Bukhara and Samarkand. It remains very authentic and pretty much all buildings have the Old style. Therefore it is UNESCO heritage. I agree with it 100%, Khiva feels really stuck in time in comparison to the other cities.

3. Its location in the desert area is very convenient to explore the Khorezm desert fortresses and Aral Sea, also visit Nukus and discover more about Karakalpakstan (which is a region very near Khiva but with a complete different language and culture! Isn't it fascinating?)

Take train to Khiva or fly to Urgench (30 km away from Khiva) :)

The crossroads of the world - a blend of Eastern European, Persian, Middle Eastern, Chinese plus a Soviet backbone (forgot Turkic too), Uzbekistan is heart of the Silk Road.

No visit to Samarkand is complete without seeing the necropolis of Shah-i-Zinda (lit. “The Living King”, a unique ensemble of mausoleums covered in brightly colored mosaic tiles from the Timurid 14th century. Some of the mausoleums underwent restoration nonetheless the results were incredible. Tip: Go during opening time around 8am to get the best lighting during (the winter) sunrise if conditions are favorable.

عندما وصل جنكيز خان إلى #بخارى علم أهل بخارى فوراً قبل وصوله، أخفوا المصاحف والكتب الدينية، قاموا باستخدام كل ما لديهم من وسائل لحفظ الدين والعلم، لا رحمة لدى المغول، حاصروا المدينة، دخلوها، افسكو الدماء حتى قيل انها تجري مجرى السيل في بخارى.
كان جيش جنكيزخان يدخل البيوت ويقتلون النساء والأطفال وكل من يقف أمامهم.
ذهل جنكيزخان برؤية مسجد كلان، ظن أنه قصر الحاكم، فأخبروه انه المسجد، دخل ساحته العظيمة، أمر بإخراج المصاحف، سكب عليها الخمر، احرقها، وركضت فوقها الخيول، وقتل كل ما حوصر فيها، قال ابن الأثير في وصفه، ليت أمي لم تلدني!
