🌲 A FOREST FROZEN IN TIME: DISCOVER LAKE KAINDY, KAZAKHSTAN
Imagine a turquoise mountain lake with tall spruce trunks rising mysteriously from its depths.
This is Lake Kaindy, one of Kazakhstan’s most remarkable natural wonders. 🇰🇿
🌊 How did it appear?
In 1911, a powerful earthquake triggered a landslide that blocked a mountain valley, creating a natural dam.
As the valley gradually filled with water, a spruce forest was submerged. More than a century later, the tree trunks still stand above the surface, creating an extraordinary underwater forest.
📅 When is the best time to visit?
☀️ June–September: Pleasant conditions for exploring and enjoying the turquoise waters.
🍂 September–October: Beautiful autumn colours and crisp mountain air.
❄️ Winter: Snow-covered mountains and a frozen lake create a magical landscape, although access can be more difficult.
📍 Good to know before you go:
Lake Kaindy is located approximately 300 km from Almaty, within Kolsai Lakes National Park.
At around 2,000 metres above sea level, temperatures can be cool even in summer. The final stretch of road can be rough, so a suitable vehicle is important.
