These wonderful mosaics from Soviet times are usually found on the side of residential buildings and can still be found in most Uzbek cities today. 😍

We just love our good old Soviet postcards! 💌

Did you know that a massive earthquake in Tashkent in 1966 led to the destruction of its historic parts? The city was rebuilt, modelled on Soviet architectural styles. In fact "Seismic modernism" is a term you will only hear when speaking about Tashkent! 🤓

Hotel Uzbekistan is probably the most well-known and iconic modernist building in Tashkent. Its facade with lattice patern recalls traditional Islamic architecture but also pays a great tribute to brutalist concrete. 🔩

The hotel opened its doors in the 1970's to welcome la crème de la crème of Soviet and foreign visitors. The hotel is still in function today although you won't find any stylish Soviet luxury in there, but a rather disapointing Western décor. 😅

Are you a fan of modernist and brutalist architecture? Then Uzbekistan has many underrated surprises for you! 😮

Soviet-built "Hotel Rossiya" has unfortunately been demolished, like many other Soviet monuments, highly depreciated by the former government. 🤔But mentalities are changing and both locals' and tourists' interest for this Soviet architectural legacy may well save iconic buildings and monuments from falling into ruins. You can be part of this.💯
