6 facts about the conqueror Timur, known as Tamerlane.
1. The real name of one of the greatest generals in world history is Timur ibn Taragay Barlas, which means "Timur the son of Taragai of the Barlas family". Various Persian sources mention the pejorative nickname Timur-e Liang, that is, "Timur the Lame", given to the commander by his enemies. "Timur-e Liang" migrated to Western sources as "Tamerlan". Having lost its pejorative meaning, it became the second historical name of Timur.
2. Since childhood, he loved hunting and war games, Timur was a strong, healthy, physically developed person. Anthropologists, who studied the tomb of the commander in the 20th century, noted that the biological age of the conqueror, who died at 68, judging by the condition of the bones, did not exceed 50 years.
3. For several decades of virtually continuous wars, Timur managed to create a huge state that included Maverannahr (the historical region of Central Asia), Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. The conqueror Timur himself gave the created state the name Turan.
4. Leading bloody wars, Timur from the campaigns brought not only material b***y, but also scientists, artisans, artists, architects. With it there was active restoration of cities, the foundation of new ones, the construction of bridges, roads, irrigation systems, as well as the active development of science, painting, secular and religious education.
5. Timur had 18 wives, among whom Uldjai-Turkan aga and Saray-mulk khanim are often singled out. These women, who are called "Timur's favorite wives", were related to each other: if the Uljay-Turkan aga was the sister of Timur's companion Emir Hussein, then Sarai-mulk hanim is his widow
6. Back in 1398, Timur began to prepare for an aggressive campaign in China, which was started in 1404. As is often the case in history, the Chinese saved the case - the started campaign was interrupted due to the early and extremely cold winter, and in February 1405 Timur was no more.
