Chorsu Bozori🕌

Chorsu has been a trade hub for centuries — it existed long before Tashkent became a modern city and played an important role on the ancient Silk Road trade routes. 
The name “Chorsu” means “four ways” — referring to the crossroads where the market was originally situated. 

While the market itself dates back many centuries, the distinctive domed structure you see today was built in the late Soviet era (around 1980) and has since become a symbol of Tashkent.

The Uzbek doppi (also called tubeteika) is a traditional skullcap that reflects centuries of culture, craftsmanship, and symbolism in Uzbekistan 🇺🇿

🧵 Design & Meaning
Each doppi is hand-embroidered with patterns that carry deep meaning. Motifs often symbolize protection, fertility, nature, and good fortune. The famous four white pepper shapes on the Chust doppi, for example, are believed to guard the wearer from evil.

Chekich⬇️

The chekich is a traditional wooden bread stamp used by Uzbek bakers to decorate non (Uzbek flatbread) before baking. Its round wooden base is embedded with metal pins arranged in geometric or floral patterns. When pressed into the center of the dough, it creates an ornamental design that prevents the bread from puffing up too much while baking and gives non its distinctive look.

Beyond its practical function, the chekich reflects Uzbek craftsmanship and culture—each pattern can vary by region or baker, making every loaf slightly unique. The stamped designs also help identify the baker and add aesthetic beauty to the bread, which is deeply respected in Uzbek tradition.

The National Geographic team has prepared a list of the best travel destinations for 2026, combining the opinions of the magazine’s experts, photographers, and travelers.

The magazine notes that while Samarkand and Bukhara are currently at the peak of their popularity, Khiva offers a more authentic and tranquil journey into the past.

It is also mentioned that a high-speed railway connecting Tashkent and Khiva will be launched in the summer, reducing travel time by half.

National Geographic recommends that tourists visit Itchan Kala, the historic center of Khiva included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visitors will be able to admire the beauty of restored palaces, mosques, and minarets, as well as witness unique festivals — such as the Lazgi dance, Bahadirs’ (warriors’) competitions, and the Melon Festival.

According to National Geographic experts, Khiva remains one of the few places where the history of the East can be felt in every brick of its ancient walls and every corner of the old city.
