In light of celebrating its 15th Anniversary, the Roads, Buildings, and General Services Authority (BRAGSA) has announced the closure of all offices on Tuesday 1st October, 2024.

According to an official post on their page, this closure is to facilitate the attendance of staff members to it Anniversary’s Church Service.

All offices will remain closed up until 1:00 p.m. the same day.

The tradition of whaling in Bequia has been secured for the next six years according to an announcement made by Director of Grenadines Affairs and Whaling Commissioner for SVG, Edwin Snagg.

Currently attending the International Whaling Commission's (IWC) meeting in Peru, Snagg revealed that a quota of four whales annually has been approved for Bequia whalers.

This decision enables St. Vincent and the Grenadines to maintain its cultural practices while complying with international conservation standards.

The agreement is a result of extensive negotiations and highlights the IWC’s dedication to safeguard indigenous cultures and traditions through regulations for aboriginal subsistence whaling.

Snagg expressed his contentment with the outcome, noting that the whaling tradition is deeply embedded in the culture of the people of Bequia.

Although the Bequia whaling industry is small, it has long been acknowledged for its cultural significance, operating under strict quotas and regulations that protect whale populations while honoring the island's heritage.

A release from the Agency for Public Information (API) states the established quota will enable whalers to continue their work in harmony with international conservation principles for the next six years.

Ongoing discussions will take place with international organizations to enhance the balance between cultural heritage and environmental responsibility.

Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Culture Carlos James has said that the government is aiming to re-launch the Wedding Destination Campaign’ of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking at the press conference to celebrate the inaugural JetBlue flight to St. Vincent and the Grenadines held at the NIS Conference Room yesterday 25th September 2024, the Minister said the previous process of getting married in SVG was one of the most tedious tasks for visitors to come into the country.

Minister James said the government has since assessed ways to make the process easier and accessible for person who travel to SVG for destination weddings by decentralizing some of the services involved within the process.

Persons are now able to visit the gov.vc website to access, register, and pay for all services included for a destination wedding without the need for extra travels.

The Minister also highlighted that this is one of the first government services which is remotely accessible and remotely payable.

Minister James highlighted positive feedbacks from visitors who are keen on coming to SVG for weddings while noting that this service which has been in the testing phase is now ready for roll out in the coming year to global source markets.
