The Sleeping Lady of Virgin Gorda

She’s not just a mountain. She’s a legend.

From the sea, Virgin Gorda looks like a woman lying peacefully on her side.

Legend says she was a powerful island goddess who fell in love with a humble fisherman. When he died, she laid down in grief—never to rise again.

Her tears became The Baths. Her curves became the hills. Her spirit still watches over the island.

Treat her with respect… and she might just bless your journey.

April 2025

I’m not sure there are enough words to describe how amazing this experience was! All we can say is thank you for…. The most delicious food, that we are so going to cook at home. Also for unforgettable experiences.
The expertise and professionalism is astounding, either brining us to islands with great hikes, snorkeling the reefs, advice on shops and being patient during our first time scuba diving.
We hope to see you again in our travels!

The L family.

Fable – The Mermaids of Sade and Cassidy

Long ago, between 1807 and 1828, whispers drifted through the British Virgin Islands of two mysterious mermaids who swam together in the moonlit waters near Norman Island.

One was Sade, said to have the rich features of West Africa, and the other was Cassidy, pale as sea foam with eyes like stormlight. Though so different in appearance, the two were inseparable—so much so that when islanders or passing sailors called out to them, each would answer only to the other’s name, as if their identities were fluid as the sea itself.

Legend holds that their presence calmed the roughest waters. Fishermen swore the mermaids’ songs soothed storms and guided lost vessels home. But as the years passed, sightings dwindled, and by 1827, the sea fell silent.

Yet even now, sailors tell of strange ripples on windless days near Norman Island—of silver flashes beneath the waves and songs heard just beyond the reach of the wind. Could Sade and Cassidy still be watching, protecting, and playing in the hidden coves of the BVI?

No one knows for sure. But in these islands, some legends never sink.

Our bevy of beauties invaded the mangroves of Anegada yesterday and the ocean gods were smiling. They saw baby shark, stingrays and turtles. The weather was perfect a gentle wind pushing gently from behind.
The endless blues of the ocean blending with their Turquoise Turtle rashguards protecting gorgeous skin from the elements.
Great fun was had by all.

Due to large demand for Rum Runner frozen drinks by our lovely guests we had to move the Rum Runner factory ship to raft up with Turquoise Turtle to facilitate faster service! Our girls took over service for a while to give Al and St. John a break! Blessed by Rum and great sunsets!

Winning Wednesday Reviews

Susan M
Our family of 5 (kids ages 14, 13, and 7) just returned from an incredible week aboard the Turquoise Turtle. Captain Andre and Alison are the perfect hosts. The boat is clean and lovely with all the right gear to have fun in the water water. Alison's cooking is amazing; even my picky kids cleaned their plates. I still don't know how she managed to make a pie and bake homemade bread in her galley! One of the things we were most impressed with was how incredible they were in instructing us as we completed our open dive scuba certification. Andre and Alison are both PADI dive instructors and were amazingly thorough and patient. They went above and beyond and made the experience truly magical for this crew of new divers. If you are considering diving with them; do it! Our week aboard the Turquoise Turtle was, hands down, our most amazing family vacation. HIGHLY recommend!

Fact - The Arawak Legacy

Long before tourists arrived by sailboat or cruise ship, the British Virgin Islands were home to the Arawak people.

Around 100 BC, these early settlers journeyed north from South America, eventually making their home on islands like Tortola. They lived peacefully, relying on fishing, farming, and a deep connection to the sea and land.

Today, traces of their life still whisper through the islands. At sites like Smuggler’s Cove, archaeologists have uncovered pottery shards and stone tools—silent storytellers of a vanished way of life.

By the 15th century, the Arawaks were displaced by the Caribs, but their legacy endures. Their artifacts are carefully preserved and displayed at the Virgin Islands Folk Museum in Road Town, offering a glimpse into the ancient heart of the BVI.
