Native species doing some clean-up for us by catching and eating (in just over two hrs!) a Cuban frog, a newly invasive species. These things are horrible. Big, noisy and covered in toxic slime, but VI boa don’ care at all. 👊

Algae, seaweed, sea grass - stop ignoring them! These things are working harder than anyone of us to clean our atmosphere and slow down climate change. They’re small, taken for granted and considered kind of nasty - but no! They live short glorious lives, effectively sucking carbon out of the ocean as they bloom. When they die, that carbon goes back into the earth, where it should be. , algae are diverse, bizarre and beautiful. This one, the umbrella algae (Acetabularia acetabulum) happens to be the 3rd largest single-celled creature that we know of. The two bigger single celled creatures? Also algae. So now you know, don’t ignore them. Big-up to the seabed carbon capturers!

Join us for a gentle, inspirational paddle through this hidden pristine lagoon - a tiny pocket of untouched wilderness abundant with thriving ecosystems, creatures great and small, and BVI stories that connect us all.

Pre-December we are offering special group rates for office teams, friends, families, church or other groups looking to widen their BVI Staycation horizons. You don't have to be able to swim to dive into one of our tours, all we ask is that you bring sun protection and a smile.

All I wanted to do was take a photo of these young, flowering fruit of the noni tree (morinda citrifolia). In about 20 seconds of trying these 3 buzzed by for a swift sip of nectar. I’m guessing it tastes better for them than noni does for humans. It’s a miracle tree that grows wild and especially loves beaches and it’s REALLY, really good for you - so of course it tastes truly vile.
