It's our Emancipation Day Celebration (178 years)!

Strategic Queen Breffu led the 1733 insurrection on present-day St. John, USVI, marking the FIRST successful takeover by enslaved individuals of a European colony in the Western Hemisphere.

Years later, General Buddhoe and other enslaved Africans on St. Croix demanded freedom or else, prompting Governor-General Peter von Scholten to grant emancipation and change the island’s history. The power in Unity!
