WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SEE MIGRATORY BIRDS IN DA NANG AND HOI AN AREA FOR BIRDERS?

Da Nang is the most important area for migratory birds in the winter as well as an important rest stop If the weather is too bad when they are on the way from the northern to the south of Vietnam and further to the equator area and return.

During the extreme weather from 1st April to 4th April, we recorded thousands of migratory birds resting at Da Nang beach including Red-necked Stint, Sanderling, Lesser and Greater Sandplover, Terex Sandpiper, White-winged Tern, Caspian Tern, Black-headed Gull, etc... We recorded some species are listed on IUCN Red List such as Great Knot ( Endangered Species), Grey-tailed Tattler and Curlew Sandpiper (Near Threated).

We recorded 03 individuals of Frigatebird and unknown of Lesser or Christmas Frigatebird (Critically Endangered Species) due to the bad weather and they are juvenile individuals. We are seeking for information of Spoon-billed Sandpiper (Critically Endangered Species) in Da Nang that it's very important to protect their habitat under tourism development in the city.

The best time to see migratory birds in Da Nang and Hoi An area is from Oct to April.
