This is Cao Bang, and right now it is looking its absolute best. 🌿

Right at the border with China stands Ban Gioc, the widest waterfall in Southeast Asia. Tiers of white water tumbling into a turquoise pool, framed by green cliffs and jungle. Photos never quite do it justice. You have to feel the spray and hear the roar in person.

The weather is perfect for it too. Cool, comfortable days and clear skies, ideal for the short jungle walks, the viewpoints and the long moments just standing there taking it all in. Not too hot, not too wet, just right.

Chase the clouds. Phia Oac is where Cao Bang disappears into the mist. 🌫️

High in the Nguyen Binh hills, Phia Oac rises to nearly 2,000 meters, one of the highest peaks in the region. For much of the year its summit is wrapped in thick fog, giving the whole mountain a quiet, dreamlike feel.

Scattered across the slopes are old French villas, built nearly a century ago as a cool mountain retreat. Today they stand weathered and empty, half swallowed by moss and mist, beautiful and a little haunting.

In winter the air turns bitterly cold, and on the rarest days a thin layer of frost even touches the peak.

It is raw, quiet and wonderfully off the beaten path, part of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Geopark. This is the Cao Bang most travellers never reach. We will take you there.
