Opening yourself up to unfamiliar foods gives you a chance to experience more of the local culinary culture. And even if a dish isn’t exactly what you expected, keeping a light and cheerful mindset makes everything easier — after all, it’s just part of the journey.

Every place carries its own cultural story, just like cao lầu in Hội An. Many people assume it’s a type of noodle, but it isn’t. The noodles are made from rice soaked in water drawn from Bá Lễ well, which has a unique mineral content that gives the rice its distinctive character. The rice flour is then mixed with wood ash water from Cù Lao Chàm, giving the noodles their pale yellow color and a firm, springy texture unlike any other noodles in Vietnam.

When prepared, the noodles are only heated lightly — never boiled for long — so they stay slightly firm. That’s why a bowl of cao lầu won’t come steaming hot. The dish isn’t drenched in broth either; it’s topped with just a spoonful of concentrated sauce simmered from pork bones and Hội An spices. The slices of pork are marinated in a special local mixture, pan-seared until firm, then cut, not cooked until soft like in many other Vietnamese dishes. And the fresh herbs — especially basil — along with crispy pork cracklings and dried pork skin create that perfect contrast of flavors and textures.

All these careful steps are what make a bowl of cao lầu “warm just enough,” carrying the true soul of the dish. And once you understand why it’s made this way, you naturally find it more fascinating — and more worthy of appreciation. 🥰🥰🥰

Viet Hai Village – a hidden gem in the heart of Cat Ba National Park 🌿

If you ask me where my favorite spot in Lan Ha Bay is, I’d say Viet Hai Village, without a doubt.
Tucked away deep inside the national park, this little village feels like another world — no noise, no crowds, just birds singing and the scent of wild grass after the rain.

To reach it, our boat stops at the pier, then you’ll bike or take an electric cart through a 5km forest path, passing through lush greenery and even a cool cave. It’s not just a ride — it’s an experience.

In the village, you can try a fun fish foot massage (a local specialty!) and cycle around to explore local life — farmers drying rice, kids playing, friendly smiles everywhere.

For me, Viet Hai isn’t a place to check in — it’s a place to feel.

Canceled Tour, But Still 5-Star Review⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

On September 28th, Typhoon Bualoi forced us to cancel a tour and refund our lovely guest - Avanya. Their plans were disrupted, and they didn’t know what to do.
That’s when Hazel, our small but energetic team member, stepped in. She quickly arranged an alternative plan and helped the guest every step of the way. The guest still enjoyed a meaningful trip and caught their flight safely — and left us a 5-star review on Tripadvisor!
