Vietnam finally opened for international tourism (15 March 2022) – after more than two years of being closed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
To enter Vietnam then, the travelers must ensure to:
👉 Take a RT-PCR or RT-LAMP Covid-19 test 72 hours before departure or rapid antigen test – no more than 24 hours – prior to traveling to Vietnam. Those under the age of 2 are not required to do so, however.
OR
alternatively – if you are unable to take a pre-departure -19 test – you will be required to undergo Covid-19 testing within 24 hours of your arrival into Vietnam.
👉 Complete a health declaration form before entry.
👉 Download – and use – the PC-COVID app throughout your stay in the country.
👉 Show proof of travel health insurance that covers Covid
👉 Have a visa (if required)

Automatic extension of temporary residence for foreigners affected by the Covid-19 epidemic

Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Public Security's leadership on the continuation of the "automatic extension of temporary residence" for foreigners affected by the Covid-19 epidemic that cannot leave the country yet, Administration Immigration notice:

1. Foreigners who enter on the basis of visa exemption or entry on e-visas or tourist visas from March 1, 2020 till now continue to "automatically extend their temporary residence status" until the end of 31 / 7/2020, can exit during the above period without having to extend the temporary residence.

2. If a foreigner enters the country before March 1, 2020, if he / she can prove that he / she is stuck due to Covid-19 translation, the diplomatic mission has been certified by a diplomatic note (with a Vietnamese translation) or written confirmation of the competent Vietnamese authorities on quarantine, treatment of Covid-19 or other force majeure reasons ... will also be considered for application of "automatic extension of temporary residence" until the end of 31 / 7/2020 (must present the above Note or confirmation document upon departure).

3. Foreigners during the period of being "automatically extended with temporary residence" must declare temporary residence and medical declaration according to regulations.

4. Foreigners not falling into the above-mentioned cases or committing other law violations shall comply with the current provisions of Vietnamese law.

OFFICIAL VISA UPDATE ‼️ 18.05.2020
As stated by the Official Site of Vietnam Immigration
(english version isn't available so I had to translate everything and made it as easy to understand as possible for everyone)
1️⃣ If you entered Vietnam with Visa Exemptions, E-Visas or Tourist Visas from 01.03.2020 onwards your permit will be “automatically extended” until 30.06.2020, and you can exit Vietnam anytime before that without having to apply for visa extension (meaning if you leave Vietnam after your expiry date, but before 30.06.2020, there will be no charge for overstaying)
If you entered BEFORE 01.03.2020 the case will be the same if you have proofs that you were “helpless” such as:
1/ Stuck due to flight cancellations, your country was under lockdown, etc., confirmed with official documents provided by your Embassies/Consulates.
2/ Your visa ends during your quarantine or your Covid treatment in Vietnam, etc. that made you unable to take actions, confirmed with official documents by authorized Vietnamese government offices.
(These documents will be required if you exit after your expiry)
2️⃣ In order for said permits to be "automatically extended" , you must have residency registration and health declaration (following government standards)
3️⃣ If you don't meet the conditions in section 1, you must follow the regular rules (for example Business visa holders still have to extend)
4️⃣ If you have any inquiries regarding this matter or other problems, feel free to contact the immigration directly via their hotline (0243.9387320) for support.

The Immigration Department of Vietnam has announced Monday that international arrivals who have been stuck in Vietnam due to the Covid-19 pandemic can have their visas extended automatically until June 30.
