☁️ What Happens When There Are No Classes?

We’ve received quite a few messages asking, “Where have the classes gone? Is Class On The Clouds taking a break?”

The answer is simple: this is when some of the most important work happens.

📚 Developing a stronger curriculum
Behind the scenes, we are refining and standardizing our learning materials so that children across different school sites can enjoy a more consistent, engaging, and effective learning experience.

🤝 Building partnerships with local communities
Every new classroom begins with conversations. We work closely with local authorities, schools, and community members to understand their needs and ensure that every program is meaningful and sustainable.

🏡 Preparing our Common House
Our shared home is also getting ready for the next season. It is where volunteers live, collaborate, prepare lessons, and build friendships before heading into the classrooms.

🗺️ Planning for the months ahead
From site visits and logistics to teaching materials, volunteer coordination, and scheduling, every detail is carefully prepared so that everything is ready when classes begin again.

Not every part of our journey is visible on social media, but every lesson starts with the work that happens long before the first student arrives.

Vietnamese Architectural Styles That Captivate International Travelers

Vietnam’s architecture is a fascinating mirror of its rich history, cultural diversity, and geographic landscape. From ancient imperial palaces to nostalgic colonial streets, here are the unique architectural styles that continue to charm travelers from around the world.

1. Traditional & Regional Houses
The soul of Vietnamese rural life, beautifully adapted to the local climate and geography.
- Highlight: Nhà Rường (wooden beam houses) in the Central region built without nails; Nhà Sàn (Stilt houses) of ethnic minorities in Northern mountains to avoid wild animals; and Southwestern stilt/raft houses to cope with the floating season.
- Cultural Identity: Reflects deep harmony with nature, family hierarchy, and spiritual connection to ancestors.
Where to find:
- Traditional villages in Duong Lam (Hanoi)
- Ancient garden houses in Hue
- Ethnic villages in Mai Chau or Sapa

2. Historical Imperial Architecture
The ultimate showcase of monarchical power, royal aesthetics, and spiritual philosophy.
- Highlight: Symmetric layouts, majestic wooden structures, intricate dragon-and-phoenix carvings, and rooftops adorned with colorful porcelain shards.
- Cultural Identity: Heavily influenced by Eastern geomancy (Feng Shui) and Confucian philosophy, symbolizing the harmony between the Emperor, Heaven, and Earth.
Where to find:
- The Imperial City & Royal Tombs in Hue
- Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi

3. Indochine Architecture
A romantic and brilliant fusion between classical 19th-century French aesthetics and local tropical adaptations.
- Highlight: High ceilings, yellow-painted walls, louvered shutters for ventilation, patterned encaustic cement tiles, and traditional Asian tiled roofs.
- Cultural Identity: Represents a unique historical chapter where European engineering met Vietnamese craftsmanship to survive the harsh tropical climate.
Where to find:
- Hanoi Opera House & President Palace (Hanoi)
- Saigon Central Post Office & Fine Arts Museum (Ho Chi Minh City)

4. Ancient Towns & Heritage Urbanism
Vibrant, well-preserved trading hubs that tell stories of multicultural exchanges from centuries ago.
- Highlight: Narrow, elongated tube houses (nhà ống) with internal courtyards, bright yellow facades, and a poetic blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese architectural elements.
- Cultural Identity: A living testament to Vietnam's open-door history as a melting pot of maritime commerce in Southeast Asia.
Where to find:
- Hoi An Ancient Town (Quang Nam)
- Hanoi Old Quarter (36 Streets)

5. Religious & Spiritual Architecture
Sacred spaces that display the finest craftsmanship of local artisans across different faiths.
- Highlight: Chùa (Buddhist Pagodas) with curved roofs mimicking boats; Đình (Communal Houses) with massive wooden pillars; and majestic Neo-Gothic or Romanesque Catholic Cathedrals.
- Cultural Identity: Shows the rich tapestry of Vietnamese spiritual life, blending native folk beliefs, Buddhism, and Western Christianity.
Where to find:
- One Pillar Pagoda & Tran Quoc Pagoda (Hanoi)
- Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica (Ho Chi Minh City)
- Phat Diem Stone Cathedral (Ninh Binh)

✨ Architecture Exploration Tips in Vietnam
- Look up and down: When visiting Indochine or Ancient buildings, don't miss the intricate ceiling structures and the artistic patterns of vintage floor tiles.
- Respect the dress code: When exploring religious or imperial sites, ensure your shoulders and knees are covered as a sign of respect.
- Hire a local guide: Many historical houses look simple from the outside, but their layout and carvings hold fascinating hidden meanings that only a local expert can unveil.
- Photography timing: Golden hour (early morning or late afternoon) is the best time to capture the stunning textures and yellow hues of Vietnam’s heritage buildings.
