STEEPER FINES FOR OVERSTAYING EFFECTIVE DEC 15, 2025!

Effective December 15, 2025, foreigners using expired visas or temporary residence permits face fines up to VND 40,000,000 (≈ US$1,520)! 👇

Vietnam's new Decree No. 282/2025/ND-CP is officially in effect, significantly increasing penalties across various security and order sectors. For foreigners, the cost of overstaying is rising sharply!

Key Changes (Article 21):
- Violations under 16 days: Fines from VND 500,000 to VND 2,000,000.
- Violations 16 to under 30 days: Fines from VND 5,000,000 to VND 10,000,000.
- Violations 30 days to under 60 days: Fines from VND 10,000,000 to VND 15,000,000.
- Violations 1 year or more: MAXIMUM PENALTY: VND 30,000,000 to VND 40,000,000.

⚠️ WARNING:
Foreigners overstaying by 16 days or more may also face DEPORTATION, depending on the severity and nature of the violation, in addition to the fine.

👉TIPS: Please ensure your visa, temporary residence card, extension, or permanent residence card is valid or properly renewed before the deadline to avoid severe penalties.

🇻🇳 Vietnam Extends Visa-Free Entry to 12 More Countries!

From August 15, 2025, citizens of Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland can enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days.

This policy runs until August 14, 2028 and applies regardless of passport type.

The Immigration Management Office, under the Hà Nội Police Department, has issued a reminder urging all foreign nationals to present valid visas during immigration procedures.

Travellers are advised to carefully check the type of visa and the duration of stay as stamped in their passports upon arrival.

Foreign visitors are also reminded to monitor their permitted length of stay and avoid overstaying their visas.

Compliance with immigration laws is essential to ensure a lawful and safe stay in Việt Nam, as well as to avoid legal complications, the police said.

The advisory was issued on Wednesday, 7th May 2025 following the discovery of a violation by a foreign national, who failed to present a valid electronic visa (e-visa) upon entry.

According to the authorities, S.D.T.J, a British national residing temporarily in Tứ Liên Ward, Tây Hồ District, Hà Nội, had been issued an e-visa with validity from 3rd February 2025 to 24th April 2025.
However, upon arrival at Nội Bài International Airport, he mistakenly believed that his visa information had already been recorded in the system and did not present the e-visa at immigration.
As a result, he was admitted under Việt Nam’s unilateral visa exemption policy and granted temporary stay until 16th March 2025.
Failing to double-check the duration of stay stamped in his passport, S.D.T.J. assumed he was still entitled to remain in the country under the terms of his e-visa, thereby inadvertently overstaying his permitted stay.

According to relevant authorities, under Clause 4, Point d, Article 18 of Decree No. 144/2021/NĐ-CP dated 31st December 2021, foreign nationals who overstay their temporary residence permits by between 30 and under 60 days are subject to administrative fines ranging from VNĐ 5-10 million (US$192-385).

In addition, deportation may be imposed as a supplementary penalty. (VNS)
