When planning your motorcycle trip, consider the road type, weather, traffic, and your personal condition rather than focusing solely on kilometres. For example, a ride in Northern Vietnam that covers 150 km might require more than six hours of actual riding. Add in time for meals, sightseeing, and unexpected stops, and your day can easily stretch to eight or nine hours.

It's important to be flexible and choose your route based on the day's conditions. A good plan gives you a direction and overnight stops, but lets you adapt your route as needed. Consider the weather, road conditions, and how everyone in your group is feeling before setting off. A route that seemed ideal during planning might not be the best choice on the day.

'Which bike should I take on my Vietnam trip?'..

Well.. you want something reliable, first and foremost. It's not fun breaking down in the middle of nowhere, without signal on your phone, having to flag local folk down on a quiet road, attempting to hitch a ride. Good rental companies, such as Rentabike Vietnam, maintain their motorcycles and service them after each trip. Ensuring the chances of an annoying breakdown are minimal.

Then it comes down to what you want to do, and where you want to go. We always suggest the Honda XR150 or XR190, if you want a capable machine that's able to handle a bit of off-road, broken roads and tarmac. Quick enough to keep up with traffic on busy routes, light & nimble enough to explore off the main roads. They are super affordable, too: $20 a day for the XR150, $30 a day for the XR190.

If you are an off-road ju**ie, the Honda CRF300 is the winner. These are the go-to bikes for our tours when customers ask for 10 days off-roading through Ha Giang, for example.

The Honda CB500x is also a class option that we provide. Bigger, bulkier, and super comfortable. Ideal for those who want to crack out a decent amount of mileage on a daily basis, and are experienced riders.
