Did you know? The construction of the first railway in Vietnam dates from the year 1881 during the period of French colonization (always french !). It was designed to connect the big city of Saigon to My Tho in the Mekong Delta. It took 4 years to complete this work. It is July 20, 1885 the first train that circulated in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, railways cover the country from north to south. From Hanoi, it is possible to join Ho Chi Minh in only 36 hours.
However, do not book online train ticket. Between unreliable websites, not reserved seats, you are not immune to point you at the train station on your day of departure and hear to tell you that the train is full even if you have your tickets in hand ! Prefer buying with a travel agency, they will take a compensation (for sure) but you will be assured to have a decent seat.
