Tet is not just a holiday in Vietnam — it’s a feeling of coming home ❤️

As Lunar New Year approaches, families start preparing weeks in advance. Homes are cleaned, decorated with peach blossoms or kumquat trees, symbolizing luck and new beginnings.

The most meaningful moment happens on New Year’s Eve, when families gather together, share traditional meals, and welcome a fresh start.

During Tet, you will see:
🧧 Red envelopes/ Tet gift box/ Lucky money given as wishes for good fortune
🎋 Beautiful seasonal decorations everywhere
🥢 Special dishes that are only prepared once a year

Tet is not about how grand the celebration is.
It’s about who you celebrate it with.

Tet is comingg~🌸
Here are some beautiful Vietnamese traditions you might notice if you visit Vietnam during Lunar New Year.

🐟 Kitchen Gods Ceremony (23rd day of the last lunar month)
Vietnamese families prepare offerings, including live carps and paper items, for the Kitchen Gods. According to tradition, they travel to heaven to report each family’s activities to the Jade Emperor.

🪔 Cleaning the Family Altar
Before Tet, families carefully clean the ancestral altar using clean cloths and sometimes scented water. This act shows respect and gratitude to ancestors.

🍃 Making Banh Chung (Traditional Tet Cake)
Family members gather to make square sticky rice cakes wrapped in D**g leaves, filled with mung beans and pork. The square shape represents the Earth and symbolizes family unity and gratitude for nature.

🍎 Five-Fruit Tray (Mam Ngu Qua)
Families arrange five different fruits on the altar. Each fruit represents wishes such as health, prosperity, happiness, and longevity. The fruit selection often varies by region.

🚪 First Footing (Xông Đất)
The first visitor entering a house after midnight, their zodiac sign and personality are believed to influence the family's luck for the whole year. Because they bring luck or misfortune for the entire year so families often invite someone with a cheerful personality and good fortune.

🧹 Avoid Sweeping on the First Day of Tet
We avoid sweeping the floor on the first day of Tet. People believe that if you sweep the house, you will "sweep away" all the wealth and luck.

🥣 Stuffed Bitter Melon Soup
“Khổ qua” literally means “hardship has passed.” Eating this traditional soup symbolizes hopes for a smoother and more peaceful year ahead.

🃏 Traditional Games & Card Games
Families and friends often play traditional games or simple card games together during Tet as a way to bond and celebrate the holiday spirit.

🍬 Candied Fruits & Tea
Guests are warmly welcomed with a colorful tray of candied fruits such as ginger, coconut, and lotus seeds, usually served with hot tea.

🏡 Tet Visits
Tet is the time to visit relatives, friends, and neighbors, exchange wishes and lucky money, and reconnect after a long year.

If you visit Vietnam during Tet, you won’t just see a holiday — you’ll experience a celebration of family, tradition, and hope for a new beginning

TOMORROW WILL BE A FIREWORKS SHOW ON AN UNPRECEDENTED SCALE IN HANOI
🎇Nearly 10,000 fireworks will be used, including 4,600 high-altitude fireworks, 950 fountains, and 4,400 pyrotechnic fireworks tubes.

🎆This scale is many times larger than previous annual fireworks displays (the high-altitude fireworks alone are almost 7 times more numerous than before).

🌠Some fireworks are specially designed to form shapes when launched: stars, the Vietnamese national flag, etc.

🎶Especially, the fireworks are programmed to synchronize with the music, creating an impressive light show in the sky.

🏛️For the first time, the fireworks display will be directly positioned on the rooftop and on both sides of Stand B of My Dinh Stadium.

🌆In addition to the closing fireworks, the display will incorporate various performances combining music, light, lasers, and stage effects.

🌃3D Mapping technology and a multi-layered stage with a modern LED system will also be used.

📍The fireworks display is expected to last approximately 30 minutes, starting at 8:10 PM on January 23rd

A story from someone who didn’t study tourism

This page is for travelers planning a trip to Northern/ Central Vietnam, and looking for honest advice, not scripted tour sales. And this is why I started.

I love traveling.
But the truth is — I didn’t study tourism.
I studied accounting, and I never worked in the field I was trained for. In April 2025, I applied for a job as a tour sales staff — not because I had experience, but because I wanted to understand the travel industry from the inside and take my passion seriously.
After one month of learning on the job — observing, asking questions, figuring things out on my own — I decided to open my own small travel office, with just one month of experience and very basic English skills.
It sounded risky.
And honestly, it was.
Because I had no formal background, I approached tourism the same way many first-time travelers do: with lots of questions, uncertainties, and the need for clear and honest answers. I learned everything from scratch, by doing, making mistakes and fixing them.
At the same time I was renovating the space, just one and a half months, my small travel office was completed and officially opened. After more than 7 months in tourism, I started noticing many problems travelers often face.
Some people return from Ha Giang or Sapa to Hanoi at 3:00 am. Exhausted, dropped off in the middle of the night, with nowhere to properly rest. I’ve seen this situation many times.
And I kept thinking:
“What if there were just a small place
where travelers could shower, sleep for a few hours,
and then continue their journey?”
That’s why I decided to take another risk and build a small dorm hostel on the second floor of my travel office. The hostel is still under construction. I know I’m still learning and have a lot to improve. But this isn’t about business expansion — it’s about solving a real problem I see every day.

This page was created to share:
• Tours & itineraries in Northern and Central Vietnam
• Transportation, bus/train tickets, and travel tips
• Real experiences from travelers
• And my journey of learning tourism from zero

If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam, or feeling unsure about where to go or how to plan it, feel free to message me. I’ll answer as someone who once stood exactly where you are
