✨ Hanoi Desserts You Might Not Know (But Definitely Should Try!) 🍧

Think Hanoi is only about pho and banh mi? Think again 😉
Let me take you on a sweet journey through some hidden (and underrated) local desserts you may have never heard of:

🍚 Xôi chè (sticky rice & sweet soup)
A comforting combo of soft sticky rice and creamy sweet soup – simple, filling, and deeply traditional.

🍮 Tào phớ (Vietnamese tofu pudding)
Silky smooth tofu in light sugar syrup. Perfect for a refreshing, not-too-sweet treat on a hot Hanoi day.

🍶 Sữa chua nếp cẩm (yogurt with fermented sticky rice)
A unique mix of creamy yogurt and slightly chewy, fermented purple rice – sweet, tangy, and surprisingly addictive!

🥥 Kem dừa (coconut ice cream)
Served in a coconut shell with toppings like peanuts and coconut flakes.

🍍 Hoa quả dầm (mixed fruit with condensed milk)
Fresh tropical fruits mixed with crushed ice, yogurt, and condensed milk – colorful, juicy, and super refreshing.

🥤 Nước mía (sugarcane juice)
Freshly pressed sugarcane juice with a hint of kumquat – naturally sweet, hydrating, and a true local favorite.

💡 These are the little things that make Hanoi special – not just food, but experiences, memories, and flavors you won’t forget.

Lunar New Year in Vietnam is a time of reunion, gratitude, and celebration - and nothing reflects this spirit better than the traditional holiday feast prepared for family gatherings and ancestor worship.

A typical Northern Vietnamese New Year meal often includes:

🌿 Square sticky rice cake – a traditional rice cake made of glutinous rice, mung beans, and pork, symbolizing the Earth and gratitude to ancestors.

🍗 Whole boiled chicken - representing prosperity, respect, and a fresh start.

❤️ Red sticky rice – glutinous rice naturally colored with gac fruit, symbolizing luck, happiness, and good fortune.

🍲 Bamboo shoot soup – a rich and comforting soup often cooked with pork or chicken, adding warmth to the festive meal.

🍜 Glass noodle soup – a light yet flavorful dish that balances the richness of meat-based foods.

🥗 Vietnamese mixed salad – a refreshing combination of vegetables and herbs that brings crunch and harmony to the feast.

🥢 Crispy fried spring rolls – golden rolls filled with minced pork, vegetables, and glass noodles, symbolizing abundance and celebration.

🧅 Pickled onions – small but essential, helping to cut through the richness of the meal and representing balance.

Together, these dishes create more than just a meal, but they tell a story of family connection, cultural pride, and hopes for a prosperous new beginning.

From the traditional Vietnamese custom of chewing betel leaves and blackening teeth, to washing hair with dried pomelo peels… and even a special song about Ho Chi Minh composed by a Greek musician.
It’s truly amazing to see how two distant lands can share so many meaningful similarities. 🌏

New year, new journeys, new friendships and many more cultural bridges to build.

They cried - quietly, unexpectedly - as they watched the silkworms begin to spin their silk. For Evelyn and her daughter, it wasn’t just a visit. It was a moment. And they left the most heartfelt note to the silk artisan 💕

Who would have thought that behind this old, humble-looking silk workshop lies the birthplace of so many smooth, high-quality silk scarves? Scarves that travel far beyond this village - across Vietnam, and even overseas. Every thread carries patience, tradition, and generations of silent craftsmanship.

Would you like to visit the silk village with me one day?

When visiting a temple in Vietnam, you may ask a calligraphy master for a special character — a word you hope will come true in your life ✨

During our Hanoi Culture and Cuisine Walking tour experience, Olivia and her husband chose the character 平安, which means Peace and Happiness.

It was a gentle afternoon - joyful, thoughtful, and yes… even with a few tears. Strange, isn’t it?
This lovely couple was deeply moved while listening to Will - our tour guide, share historical stories along the way. Because joy and sorrow always walk side by side in life - that’s natural. What truly matters is finding inner peace, just like the meaning behind Olivia’s calligraphy.

✨ Cultural note: In Vietnam, people often visit temples at the beginning of the year to ask for a calligraphy character and hang it at home, hoping for luck, health, and prosperity.

So… have you thought about which word you would ask for during your trip to Hanoi? 😁

Recently, I had the chance to visit Ben Thanh Market again - A Must-Visit in Ho Chi Minh City 🇻🇳
No matter how many times I come back, the energy here always feels the same-busy, colorful, and full of life. From the smell of street food to the friendly chatter of vendors, Ben Thanh isn’t just a market, it’s a living snapshot of Saigon.
Don’t forget to practice a little bargaining; it’s part of the fun and local culture 😉

🧧 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲, 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬!

During Vietnamese New Year (Tết), one of the most beautiful traditions is lì xì — giving red envelopes with lucky money to wish good health, happiness, and prosperity for the year ahead. It’s not about the amount, but the blessings and positive energy shared at the start of a new year ✨

🌸 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐢 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞̂́𝐭? 𝐍𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬!
Tết officially begins on February 17, and while some shops may close briefly, you only need to avoid February 16–18. Before and after these dates, restaurants, cafés, and tourist attractions are open and operating as usual.

So come, experience the festive atmosphere, and welcome the New Year the Vietnamese way 🇻🇳💛
