🏍️ For motorcycles over 50cc:

✅ You need:

* A valid UK motorcycle licence
* An International Driving Permit (IDP) issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention
* The motorcycle category must be shown on both your licence and IDP

⚠️ Important Notes:

• Vietnam only recognises the 1968 IDP.
• The UK issues the 1968 IDP, which is accepted in Vietnam.
• Always carry your passport, UK licence, and IDP while riding.
• Travel insurance may be affected if you ride without the correct licence and permit.

👮 Police Checks

Police checks are common in Ha Giang and can occur elsewhere in Vietnam. Make sure your documents are available if requested.

🇻🇳 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR HA GIANG
If you’re planning to do ride or visit areas of the Ha Giang , commonly known as the Loop this month, there is a new regulation that foreign visitors should be aware of.

📍 From June 1, 2026, foreign travelers entering border areas in Ha Giang may be required to obtain a Border Area Entry Permit and pay an additional fee of approximately $10 USD per person. (Apply directly at the department of immigration in Ha Giang city).

Areas affected include:

* Quan Ba
* Yen Minh
* D**g Van
* Lo Lo Village
* Du Gia
* Vi Xuyen
* Minh Tan
* Other designated border regions

⚠️ This requirement may apply even if you’re only passing through these areas and not staying overnight.

Authorities have reportedly increased inspections at border checkpoints and along popular travel routes. Visitors may be asked to present:
✅ Passport or valid identification
✅ Accommodation registration documents
✅ Border area entry permit (if required)

Travelers who cannot provide the necessary documents may face fines or travel disruptions.

💡 If you’re joining a Ha Giang Loop tour, check with your tour operator in advance to confirm whether the permit is included and if any additional paperwork is needed.
