On 2 September 1945, hundreds of thousands gathered in Ba Đình Square.

President Hồ Chí Minh read the Declaration of Independence, formally proclaiming the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam before the Vietnamese people and the world.

81 years later, Vietnam continues its independence while pursuing international integration in a new era of development.

If you’re in Vietnam during the 7th lunar month, you might observe food offerings left on the pavement, incense outside homes, or crowds gathering for "giật cô hồn."

Known as “Ghost Month,” it is a time of remembrance, gratitude and generosity - from Vu Lan and ancestor worship to offerings made for wandering spirits.

Look beyond the superstition, and you’ll find a tradition deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture.
