EVEREST: THE FINAL ASCENT | Dingboche to EBC | EBC Part 3

The final stage of the journey to Everest Base Camp.
From Dingboche, the trail climbs through the high-altitude landscape of the Khumbu Valley toward Thukla, Chukpi Lhara (Everest Memorial), Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and Everest Base Camp—where the terrain becomes increasingly stark, exposed, and dominated by glacial systems and some of the world's highest peaks, including views of Mount Everest - The Top of the World.

As an Earth Science graduate and GIS practitioner, this film also looks beneath the surface of the journey. GIS mapping, satellite imagery, terrain data, and 3D spatial visualization are integrated throughout the film to place the trek within its broader geological and geographic setting.

This was a one-man production—filmed, mapped, edited, and produced independently. More than 45 hours of physical post-production work went into this film between DaVinci Resolve and ArcGIS Pro spanning a week, combining field cinematography, color grading, sound design, cartography, spatial visualization, and documentary editing into a single narrative.

Part 2 of my Everest Base Camp documentary series follows the trail from Namche Bazar to Dingboche through Nepal's Khumbu region, passing Sherpa villages, alpine forests, glacial valleys, and high Himalayan terrain within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Featuring spectacular views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Taboche, Kangtega, and Thamserku, this journey captures some of the most iconic mountain landscapes in the Himalaya.

Filmed during the cold, dry month of February, the winter season reveals broad braided channels and gravelly alluvial plains along the Imja Khola, exposing glacial sediments that are largely hidden beneath powerful meltwater during spring and the summer monsoon. Throughout the trek, the documentary explores the geology, geomorphology, ecology, and cultural landscape that continue to shape one of the world's most extraordinary mountain environments.

This film includes Namche, Khumjung, Thyangboche & Monastery, Deboche, Pangboche, Somare, Orsho, the Imja Valley, and Dingboche, offering a deeper look into the landscapes and communities of the Khumbu.
