🎥 Mission Impossible: A tourist forgets his brand-new shoes on the sidewalk, and a street recycler uses her network to find them in just 40 minutes 👏🏻

An English tourist was doing a fit check while filming in a small alley in Ho Chi Minh City when he accidentally left his brand-new shoes behind. By the time he realized and went back, the shoes had completely disappeared. He was almost in tears when he spotted a woman collecting recyclables walking by.

Two people, two languages, and neither could really understand what the other was saying. Yet somehow, she understood that he was looking for a pair of shoes he had left behind.

She immediately waved for him to follow her. While pushing her cart full of cardboard, she kept making phone calls to her “colleagues” in the local recycling network. The tourist, worried that she didn’t understand him, kept using ChatGPT to communicate. She didn’t even bother looking at the screen—just waved her hand as if to say, “I know, I know. Stop explaining!” 😂

After 40 minutes, crossing through several narrow alleys, they actually found the shoes!

The tourist was so happy that he tried to give her some money as a thank-you. But she simply waved it away and refused, as if those 40 minutes and a dozen phone calls were nothing worth mentioning. 🥹

DONATIONS CLOSED
This morning, while buying a 15,000đ kumquat tea, I met an elderly cyclo driver whose old vehicle was leaning badly to one side. I handed him my drink. He pulled over to thank me, and after asking a bit about his situation, I truly felt heartbroken.

His name is Mr. Phải, born in 1949, now 77 years old. His wife is bedridden at home.

His eldest son disappeared long ago, leaving behind a 16-year-old grandchild with mild mental illness for the grandparents to raise.

His youngest daughter, now 46 years old, has been suffering from severe mental illness for many years (the person in the photo with him on the cyclo is his daughter).

He had just returned from a medical check-up and picking up medication. At his age, he said he accepts whatever help he can get.

I’m not in a position to help much myself either. I only had 100,000đ left in my pocket, plus a sandwich and my cup of kumquat tea, so I gave them all to him.

If anyone would like to help, or knows of an organization that could provide support, please contact Mr. Phải directly:

• Phone number: 0707 590 375
• Address: 347 Block B, An Quang Apartment, Ward 9, District 10
(Direct calls and in-person visits are preferred.)

Mr. Phải uses a basic keypad phone, and I forgot to ask whether he has a bank account.

So, I’ll leave my bank account information in the comments below. If you make a transfer, please send me a message with the transfer note: “Support for Mr. Phải.”

Next week, I will withdraw the money, bring it directly to him, and update everyone who contributed. Thank you! ^^

She pulled her suitcase with one hand while holding her phone using Google Translate from Russian to Vietnamese: “Can I bring these things to the flood victims?”
So grateful for the gentle, heartfelt kindness from our Russian friends ❤️

When Elizabeth Homfray left Australia for HCMC nearly two decades ago, the transition was smoother than expected. Asian flavors were already staples in her kitchen, and fresh produce felt familiar rather than foreign.

What truly shaped her life here, however, was not food but a calling: rescuing and rehoming dogs in a city once unaccustomed to pet care.

Today, through Laws for Paws Vietnam, the animal rescue organization she founded, Homfray has helped treat more than 1,200 dogs and placed hundreds into new homes, and in the process, found a deeper sense of belonging in Vietnam.
