How to pursue vernacular aesthetic with contemporary fabrication?

The design language comes from colonial, indochine aesthetic; but also a simple everyday object, coming from our memories growing up in Saigon in the 80s and 90s : a classic wooden table with lace cloth on a summer day.

Everything becomes streamlined and simplified with modern life. The old and traditional traits in our everyday life are left behind, slowly fading into memories. We seek to preserve these invaluable design language and ornaments, not by replicating the past, but by a new way of making.

Folding steel plates form structural table legs. Indochine curvature and lacing transparency are translated into laser cut patterns. Table legs and top come in parts for ease of packing; and ease to assembly at home.

Timeless - a value is pursuited not as something preserved or heritage, but as something used and lived with every day.

Belly Button — a brunch and winery spot in District 1, Saigon.

Inspired by the ritual spaces of Roman baths, the project transforms a typical tube house into two contrasting atmospheres. Below, a warm, intimate dining room evokes the calm of a thermal bath. Above, a brighter “pool” zone opens up for wine and conversation.

The design embraces indulgence as a simple human condition. There is comfort in acknowledging our appetites—our small greeds and vulnerabilities.

A modest fit-out, shifting from quiet restraint downstairs to a more playful, sensual mood above.

A small place for food, wine, and the pleasure of giving in.

Artspace - Outdoor Adaptation . 2025

Artspace is a mixed-use art gallery and restaurant in Hoi An, originally completed in 2018. The outdoor area was created as a pizzeria—an open pavilion beneath a glass roof. Over time, the space became vulnerable to the region’s climate: strong winds, heavy rain, and scorching heat.

This new phase addresses those constraints directly; rather than altering the spatial, the approach is to focus on the environment adaptation.

Roof shading, rain curtains, and sliding glass panels become the core design vocabulary, forming a flexible envelope that can be adjusted according to weather conditions through simple operation.

Planters define the perimeter and work as spatial dividers within the space, softening the boundary between inside and outside; turning an open air pavilion into a semi enclosed outdoor courtyard, providing protection and operational stability.
